Trailing by a four-run deficit at the start of the fifth inning, the Pottstown baseball team was able to put four runs across in the inning then pour four more in during the top of the seventh to claim a season-opening 9-5 win over Pottsgrove on Wednesday afternoon.
Ron Fausnaught and Aiden Owens each finished 2-for-3 at the dish with two runs scored while Mason Pennypacker finished with two RBIs as Pottstown claimed the crosstown rivalry. Logan Pennypacker got the start for Pottstown where he yielded five runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks with five strikeouts across 3 1/3 innings. Chase McKain went the rest of the way to earn the win, allowing just three hits and a pair of walks.
Nick DeCurtis suffered the loss for Pottsgrove, allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk. Bailey Delp (run scored), Garrett Bleakley (run scored, RBI) and Mike Gantert each added two hits in the loss.
