Reporter/Times Herald Baseball Roundup (May 18): Corrado homers twice, North Penn claims outright SOL Colonial title
North Penn 14, Central Bucks East 6 >> Steve Corrado hit two home runs and North Penn erased a 6-0 deficit after two innings to claim the outright Suburban One League Colonial Division title with a road win over Central Bucks East Tuesday afternoon.
Corrado went 2-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored while Jeff Sabater was 4-for-4 with a double and scored four times for the Knights (13-5, 11-5 division), who took the lead for good with a seven-run top of the third.
Ryan Sullivan was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored, Jack Picozzi finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Justin Egner had two RBI and two runs as North Penn won its first SOL title since its outright Continental Conference crown in 2018. Evin Sullivan collected two RBIs and Sam Cohen scored two runs.
Joey Wilga went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for CB East (12-8, 9-7), which lost their third straight game. Reece Moody was 2-for-3 with two runs, Max McGrady went 2-for-4 with Quinn Moody going 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Patriots, who could have earned a share of the division title with a win jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Quinn Moody scored when Jack Nugent reached on an error an Wilga hit an RBI single.
East extended its advantage with four in the second on a Jack Mislan RBI single, Nugent RBI double and Wilga’s two-RBI triple.
After North Penn loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the third, Evin Sullivan’s two-RBI single followed by Corrado’s three-run homer had the Knights within 6-5. A Picozzi one-out RBI double tied things while Ryan Sullivan’s RBI sacrifice fly put NP ahead 7-6.
In the fourth, Corrado connected on a two-run homer to make it 9-6 while the Knights had two more score when Ryan Sullivan reached on an error to go up five.
North Penn went up 12-6 in the fifth on a Egner RBI single then tacked on two more after loading the bases with one out in the sixth – one run scoring when Corrado reached on an error with the second coming home on an Egner walk.
Hatboro-Horsham 9, Upper Dublin 0 >> Hatboro-Horsham scored five runs in the top of first while Cole Fisher and Jimmy Tooley combined to pitch a two-hit shutout as the Hatters ended Upper Dublin’s 12-game win streak.
Trey Porter was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Jack Elwell went 3-for-4 and scored twice while Logan Fischer finished 2-for-4 with a double and RBI for Hatboro-Horsham (12-7, 11-5 SOL Liberty), which has won two straight and nine of last 10.
HH starter Cole Fisher earned the win on the mound, allowing two hits, no walks, hit one batter and struck out three in five innings. Tooley threw the final two frames, did not give up a hit, walked one and struck out three.
Ryan Toporowski was 2-for-2 with a run scored for the Hatters, Will Bruner doubled and collected two RBIs while Nick Katherine had two RBIs.
In the top of the first, Hatboro-Horsham loaded the bases with no outs and made it 2-0 on a Tooley walk and Katherine RBI groundout. After a Bruner RBI fielder’s choice, Tooley scored on an error while a Fischer RBI double had the Hatters up 5-0.
HH added two more in the second as Porter came home on an error and Katherine plated another with his RBI sac fly. A Bruner RBI double in the fifth and Fisher’s RBI single in the sixth made it 9-0.
Kyle Rizzo and Leo Soriano each had a single for Upper Dublin (12-8, 10-6 SOL Liberty), which last came against Hatboro-Horsham 10-9 April 16 that dropped the Cardinals to 0-7.
Souderton 7, Central Bucks West 2 >> Jack Horton hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh and also pitched 6 2/3 innings to earn the victory as Souderton ended its season at .500 with a road SOL Colonial win over Central Bucks West
Horton finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two run scored while on the mound allowed two runs – one earned – on four hits, walked on, hit one batter and struck out eight as the Indians (10-10, 7-9 division) won their third straight and five of their last six.
Luke Pollock went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored with Ryan Karagis having an RBI and three runs scored for Big Red.
James Carbone was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Bucks (8-10, 8-8), who had a three-game win streak stopped.
In the top of the first, Kagarise hit an RBI single then made it 2-0 when he scored on a wild pitch. Jackson Cunnane’s RBI single in the bottom of the second had West within 2-1 before RBI singles from Horton and Justin Dicesare in the top of the third put Souderton up 4-1.
The Bucks plated a run in their half of the fifth but Horton gave the Indians a five-run cushion with his three-run homer to center in the seventh.
Central Bucks South 11, Pennridge 0 >> Alex Balint and Noah Collier teamed up to throw a three-hit shutout whiel Josh Yang hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth as Central Bucks South cruised past Pennridge in their SOL Colonial contest.
JT Anderosky was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored for the Titans (11-8, 8-8), who took a 4-0 lead by scoring three times in the third then went up 8-0 with four in the fourth. Yang also doubled as he went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Jimmy Kelly finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Matt Boyce was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Dakota Beck had two RBIs for South.
Balint picked up the win, the Titans starter giving up three hits, walking three, hitting one batter and striking out four in five innings. Collier allowed just a walk in his one innings on the mound.
Nic Chellew, Carson Wells and Tim Mastrogiovanni each had a hit for Pennridge (4-15, 2-14).
