Reporter/Times Herald Baseball Roundup: Yanoshik goes 4-for-4 to help Plymouth Whitemarsh stay undefeated
Plymouth Whitemarsh 10, William Tennent 2 >> Tom Yanoshik was 4-for-4 with an RBI double in Plymouth Whitemarsh’s five-run top of the third while also pitched six innings to earn the win as the Colonials kept their perfect record intact Wednesday.
Mike Miller was 3-for-4 while Jesse Jaconski went 2-for-4 with a run scored for PW (11-0, 5-0), who plated a run in both the first and second frames before going up 7-0 in the third. The Colonials added three in the seventh as the registered double-digits runs for the fourth straight game.
On the mound, Yanoshik allowed two runs – both unearned – on five hits, walked one and struck out three.
DJ Dickson was 2-for-3 for William Tennent (4-6-1, 4-0-0 SOL Freedom), which lost its fourth straight.
Luke Gartland drove in the first two runs in PW’s half of the third with a one-out double to right to make it 4-0. After a Dominic DiCiurcio RBI ground out, Yanoshik’s RBI double and a Tyler Gartland had the Colonials up seven.
Tennent scored a run in the fourth and sixth to make it 7-2 before PW tacked on three in the top of the seventh on a Joe Jaconski RBI sacrifice fly and Luke Caucci’s two-RBI single.
Abington 12, Springfield-Montco 11 >> Abington extended its win streak to five with a two-run rally in the top of the seventh, Cole Hamsher providing the go-ahead hit with his two-out RBI single as the Galloping Ghosts edged Springfield in an SOL crossover slugfest.
Abington (7-4, 3-2 SOL Liberty) scored four times in both the third and fourth to take an 9-3. The Ghosts added a run in the fifth to make it 10-3 but the Spartans (4-7, 4-1 SOL Freedom) cut the deficit to 10-9 with a six spot in the bottom of the inning.
Springfield then went ahead with two in the sixth – Brett Smith tying the game 10-10 with an RBI triple then scoring on a two-out Joe Smith RBI single to make it 11-10 Spartans.
Ryan Van Buren opened the top of the seventh with a double, went to third on Chase Goodson’s single and scored on a Henry Tyler RBI sac fly to knot things at 11. Goodson stole second and after a fly out came home for the go-ahead run on Hamsher’s base hit.
Van Buren pitched the bottom of the seventh and retired Springfield in order.
Hamsher finished 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored while Cody Frazier went 2-for-4 and scored twice. John Dzielawa had a double, two RBIs and two run scored with Luke Sydlowski hitting a double and collecting two RBIs.
Joe Smith was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs while Andrew Kennedy was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored for Springfield, which led 3-1 after the first inning. Gabe Franczyk went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored, Dan Matthews recorded three RBIs while Brett Smith, Nate Dennis and Tim Saiber all scored two runs.
Central Bucks West 8, Council Rock North 7 >> Central Bucks West trailed 7-4 after four innings but completed their comeback by scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth – Michael Bukowski’s RBI single providing the winning run as the Bucks snapped a three-game losing skid.
A Robb Watson RBI single in the fifth pulled West within 7-5 while in the seventh an Andrew Kohl RBI double and Michael Boyle scoring after a dropped third strike tie things at seven. Bukowski followed with a single to center, scoring Kohl for the 8-7 lead.
Bukowski was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Kohl went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while James Carbone finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for CB West (4-7, 3-2 SOL Colonial). Boyle scored two runs.
CR North’s Josh Huddy went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs while Shane Anhalt was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored as the Indians (6-6, 2-3 SOL Patriot) dropped their third straight. Lukas Mullen had a double and two RBIs, Collin Manel collected two RBIs and Brian Curry had two runs scored.
The Bucks grabbed a 2-0 lead on a Carbone two-RBI double in the bottom of the first but North went ahead with five runs in the top of the second. A bases-loaded hit by pitch and two runs after an error on a Mullen grounder put the Indians up 3-2. Manuel’s RBI single with a throw allowing another run home on the play made it 5-2.
Leor Kadar’s RBI sac fly put North up four in the top of the third before West cut the margin to 6-4 in its half of the frame as Boyle scored due to an error on Aidan Quinn grounder and Bukowski hit an RBI single. In the top of the fourth, a Pat Kusters RBI single had the Indians leading 7-4.
Wissahickon 16, Cheltenham 1 (4) >> Reed Bram threw a four-inning no-hitter, Kasey Weiss and Joe Hornig both finished with three RBIs while Jackson Tappen had three hits as Wissahickon cruised to its second straight win.
Cheltenham scored its one run off an error in the top of the first but Ben Junker’s inside-the-park home run tied the contest in the bottom of the inning. The Trojans proceeded to score five runs in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth – Danny Crump sealing the run-rule victory with a walk-off two-RBI triple.
Bram gave up one unearned run, walked one and struck out three. Weiss was 2-for-2 with a double and also scored two runs while Hornig came home twice. Jackson Tappen went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored as Wissahickon totaled 15 hits.
Crump and Keenan Ferst both had a pair of RBIs, Ryan Culp collected an RBI and scored three runs with Junker and Jack Marcantonini each scoring two runs.
Hatboro-Horsham 16, New Hope-Solebury 3 (5) >> Cole Fisher and Noah Gremo both had three RBIs, Trey Porter hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth and Hatboro-Horsham rolled to its third win in a row.
Gremo was 2-for-3 with a double and also scored twice while Jimmy Tooley went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and struck out 11 in earning the pitching victory for the Hatters (6-6, 2-3 SOL Liberty), who led 9-1 after three then added six runs in the fourth.
HH”s Will Bruner finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and two run scored, Ryan Toporowski was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Jack Elwell and Logan Fischer both scored twice.
New Hope-Solebury’s Brooks Saft hit a two-run homer run in the bottom of the fourth as the Lions (6-7, 3-2 SOL Freedom) lost their second straight.
In the top of the fourth, Bruner made it 10-1 with an RBI single, Gremo followed with a two-RBI single while the next at-bat Porter connected on his two-run home to left. Eric Sonntag added an RBI single for a 15-1 lead.
The Hatters went up 3-0 in the top of the first on a Fisher RBI sacrifice fly, Tooley’s RBI single and another run scoring due to an error on a Toporowski fly ball. HH made it 7-0 in the second thanks to a Gremo RBI double and two-out RBI singles from Fisher, Nick Katherine and Toporowski. Bases-loaded walks by Fisher and Tooley in the third had the Hatters up 9-0.
Tooley pitched all five innings for Hatboro-Horsham, allowing three runs – two earned – on two hits, one hit batter and two walks.
Council Rock South 10, Pennridge 4 >> Jon Pinciotti gave Council Rock South quick 3-0 lead with his three-run home run in the top of the first and the Golden Hawks scored seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings to pull away from Pennridge.
Bobby Croyle went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and scored twice for the Rams, who plate a run each in the bottom of the first in the third to pull within 3-2 before South struck for three in the fourth then went up 10-2 with four in the fifth.
Joey Purcell collected two RBIs while Alex Cucinotta and Jack O’Neill had two runs scored for the Golden Hawks, who drew a total of nine walks. Camp got the win on the mound, allowing two runs – both earned – on four hits over five innings. He walked four, hit one batter and struck out three.
In the top of the fourth, O’Neill came home on a passed ball to make it 4-2, Purcell hit an RBI single while Blake Booth scored on a wild pitch for a four-run South lead.
The Hawks’ four runs in the fifth came on a Camp RBI single, consecutive RBI sacrifice flies Booth and Purcell and Ryan Bauerle’s RBI single.
Pennridge made it 3-1 in the bottom of the first with a Robbie Pliszka RBI single. Shea Grourke’s RBI groundout in the third had the Rams down one. Pennridge added two runs in the sixth.
