Reporter/Times Herald Baseball Roundup: Rauscher throws 5-inning no-hitter as PW tops Cheltenham

Plymouth Whitemarsh 17, Cheltenham 0 (5)  >> Joe Rauscher struck out seven in throwing a five-inning no-hitter as Plymouth Whitemarsh erupted for 11 runs in the top of the fifth and rolled to an SOL nondivision victory Tuesday.

Jesse Jaconski went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Joe Capriotti was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and scored three times for the Colonials (8-0, 5-0 SOL Liberty), who registered double-digit runs for fourth time in their last five games.

PW plated a run in both the first and second, scored twice in both the third and fourth to go up 6-0 before ending things with 11 in the fifth.

Joe Jaconski finished 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored, Luke Gartland was 2-for-2 with a run scored, Anthony Viole scored three runs and collected an RBI and Dominic DiCiurio had a triple, two RBIs and a run scored.

Rauscher allowed one walk and hit three Cheltenham (0-6, 0-5 SOL Freedom) batters.

Upper Moreland 9, Hatboro-Horsham 4 >> Upper Moreland’s Shawn Townsend, Jaryd Meehl and Josh Henderson all doubled and finished with two hits as the Golden Bears took the lead with a four-run top of the fourth and pulled away to win claim a SOL nondivision victory.

Meehl was 2-for-4 with with two RBIs and a run scored, Townsend went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Henderson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run for Upper Moreland, which stopped a two-game losing streak.

Nick Katherine went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Hatboro-Horsham, which led 3-1 after three innings.

In the top of the fourth, Charles Jones made it 3-2 with an RBI fielder’s choice while Meehl’s RBI double tied the game. Sean McAfee’s RBI ground out put the Bears ahead while Meehl scored when Greg Wiley reached on a two-out error for a 5-3 UM edge.

Katherine had the Hatters within 5-4 with his RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. Upper Moreland, however, made it 6-4 in the fifth on Henderson’s RBI double then scored twice in the sixth on a Connor English RBI single and Townsend’s RBI sac fly. Meehl added an RBI single in the seventh.

Golden Bears starting pitcher Jimmy Torpey got the win, allowing four runs – all earned – on four hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Upper Dublin 8, Springfield-Montco 1 >> Tristan Cairnes collected three hits and two RBIs and also earned a four-hit, complete-game victory as Upper Dublin pulled away for their first win of the season.

Cairnes was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles while on the mound gave up one earned run, walked one and struck out seven  for the Cardinals (1-7, 0-5 SOL Liberty), who led 3-1 before scoring twice in the sixth and added three more in the seventh.

Ethan Madnick went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored while Tyler Lizell had an RBI and scored twice for UD.

Jack O’Malley was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Springfield (4-3, 4-1 SOL Freedom), which had a two-game win streak stopped.

Upper Dublin took a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first after a Madnick RBI double and Cairnes’ two-RBI single. The Spartans plated their lone run in the fourth on a Brett Smith RBI single.

In the top of the sixth, a Kyle Rizzo bases-loaded walk and Nick Lombardo’s RBI sacrifice fly put the Cards up 5-1. A Lizell RBI fielder’s choice and Sharp’s two-RBI double in the seventh increased the margin to seven.

Bensalem 5, Central Bucks South 2 >> Matt McShane hit a two-RBI double during Bensalem’s three-run bottom of the third and also earned a two-inning save as the Owls picked up the win in the SOL nondivision game.

Central Bucks South pulled to within 3-2 in the top of the fourth on Owen Petrich’s leadoff home run and Eric Damico’s RBI sacrifice fly. But Bensalem made it 4-2 in the fifth on a Logan Young RBI sac fly then went up three in the seventh as Jalen Soberal scored as Nick Nush reached on an error.

Petrich was 2-for-3 while JT Anderosky went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Titans (4-2, 3-1 SOL Colonial), who had their three-game win streak snapped.

McShane did not allowed allow a hit in getting the final six outs for the Owls, walking two and striking out five.

In the bottom of the third, McShane brought in the game’s first two runs with his double while a Tyler Fischer two-out, bases-loaded walk made it 3-0.

Truman 14, Pennridge 4 (5) >> Truman took a 7-0 lead with six runs in the top of the second while Wil Brennan capped the Tigers’ five-inning win with a two-run walk-off home run.

Joey Wright went 2-for-3 with two triples, an RBI and two runs scored while Ethan Helbling was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored for Truman (2-7, 1-4 SOL Patriot). James Baker finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, Christian Culver scored three runs while Brennan had two runs scored.

Pennridge (2-5, 1-4 SOL Colonial) got within 7-3 with three runs in the top of the third. Truman plated a run in the bottom of the inning but the Rams cut the margin back to four at 8-4 in the fourth on a Matt Atchley RBI single.

The Tigers, however, plated four in their half of the fourth. With two outs and bases loaded, Baker came home on a wild pitch. Jackson connected on a two-RBI single while a Helbring RBI single made it 12-4.

Atchley was 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored while Bobby Croyle went 2-for-2 with a double and RBI for the Rams, who lost their fourth straight.

In the bottom of the sixth, Helbling’s RBI single put Truman up 2-0 while Wright followed with a two-RBI triple. Poremba’s RBI single on the next at-bat made it 5-0. A Baker bases-loaded two-RBI single had the Tigers’ lead at seven.

Neshaminy 3, Central Bucks West 1 >> The game was scoreless until Neshaminy scored twice in the top of the fifth as the visitors claimed their fourth-straight victory while snapping Central Bucks West’s three-game win streak.

Gage Ryan gave Neshaminy a 1-0 lead with an two-out RBI single then scored on Josh Martoccio’s RBI double the next at-bat.

The Bucks made it 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth as James Carbone scored as Max McGlone reached base on a two-out error with the bases loaded. Liam DelGuerico struck out the next batter to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Jake Kozlowski put Neshaminy up two with his two-out solo home run to left with two outs,

DelGuerico earned the win, the Neshaminy starting pitcher giving up one run – unearned – on one hit in five innings. He struck out 10 and walked two. Justus Agosto threw two scoreless innings for the save, allowing no hits, no walks and struck out one.

CB West’s Julio Ermigiotti took the loss despite a solid six innings. He surrendered three runs – one earned – on four hits, walked one, hit one batter and struck out five.
