Reporter/Times Herald Baseball Roundup: Hatboro-Horsham edges Upper Dublin; CB East tops North Penn in 9
Hatboro-Horsham 10, Upper Dublin 9 >> Upper Dublin scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning go up 8-5 but Hatboro-Horsham answered with five runs with two outs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead and the Hatters held on to snap a three-game losing streak.
Jack Elwell was 3-for-4 with three RBIs – the first two on a triple in the second – and three runs scored while Cole Fisher was 2-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs for the Hatboro-Horsham 3-5, 2-3 SOL Liberty). Trey Porter finished 2-for-3 with two runs.
Tyler plated Upper Dublin’s first run in the sixth with his RBI double. A David Sharp RBI double made it 5-4 while Kyle Rizzo’s RBI single tie the game. Ethan Madnick’s put the Cardinals (0-7, 0-5 SOL Liberty) ahead with his two-out, two-RBI triple then scored on a wild pitch for an 8-5 UD advantage.
In the bottom of the frame, Elwell made it 8-6 with an RBI single. After Fisher’s walk loaded the bases, two runs scored as Jimmy Tooley reached on an error to pull the Hatters even. Logan Fischer followed with a two-RBI double for a 10-8 lead.
With two outs in the seventh, Rizzo doubled then scored on a error to get Upper Dublin with a run but Fischer struck out the next batter.
Lizell was 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored, Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a walk, double and two RBIs and Tristan Cairnes was 2-for-3 with an RBI two runs scored.
UD plated a run in the top of the second but the Hatters scored three in the bottom of the inning. The Cards cut their deficit to 3-2 with a run in the second before the Hatters scored twice in the fifth.
CB East 4, North Penn 2 (9) >> Jack Nugent broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth inning with two-run home run and Central Bucks East bounced back from its first loss to beat North Penn for an SOL Colonial victory.
Nugent went 3-for-5 with two-RBIs while Joey Wilga connected on a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to put the Patriots (5-1, 3-1) up 2-1. North Penn tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
Andrew Whinney was 2-for-4 with a double, Reece Moody finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and Derek Bound went 2-for-4 for East.
Evin Sullivan collected the Knights’ lone hit and scored a run while Steve Corrado also scored for NP, which took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Xavier Sjostedt earned the win, allowing no runs and hits in 2 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four. CB East starting pitcher Gabe Marshall went 6 1/3 innings, gave up two runs – both unearned – on one hit, walked three and struck out six.
Methacton 12, Upper Merion 6 >> Methacton trailed 4-3 after the first inning but scored eight runs over the next three frames went on to double up host Upper Merion for a PAC crossover victory.
Mario D’Addesi was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored wile Nolan McCloskey went 2-for-3 and scored twice for Methacton. Tyler Weil-Kasper collected three RBIs with Jake Chapman, Mike Lamalfa and Brandon Botta all scoring two runs.
Upper Merion’s Mike Loschiavo and Nick Muscarella each had two RBIs while Oscar Brenes and Ben Eyer both scored twice.
Weil-Kasper gave Methacton his bases-loaded two-RBI single making it 5-4 in the top of second. The Warriors tacked on another two in the inning on a Lamalfa RBI sac fly and an error on D’Addesi’s grounder.
A Weil-Kasper RBI ground out made it 8-4 in the third with the Warriors adding three more in the fourth on a D’Addesi RBI single, Chapman bases-loaded walk and Jude Wozniak RBI ground out to go up 11-4.
Upper Merion scored twice in the bottom of the fifth while Methacton plated its last run in the seventh.
After the Vikings loaded the bases with one out in the first, Eyer was hit by a pitch and Loschiavo walked. Muscarella’s two-out, two-RBI single put UM up 4-3.
Abington 5, Quakertown 2 >> Anthony Ehly was 2-for-2 with walk, double and three RBIs while also striking out 10 in six innings on the mound as Abington claimed an SOL Liberty win.
Alex Dardaris went 2-for-3 with an RBI, John Dzielawa scored twice and the Ghosts (3-4, 3-2) erased a 2-1 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the third . Ehly’s two-RBI double gave Abington the lead while a Matt Worek RBI single made it 4-2.
The Ghosts added a run in the fifth on Dardaris’ RBI single.
Ehly got the win, giving up two runs – both earned – on four hits and a walk.
Brandon Pierce was 2-for-3 with a run for Quakertown (2-5, 2-3), who took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Justin Butler’s two-run home run. Abington cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning on an Ehly RBI single.
Central Bucks West 11, Souderton 2 >> James Carbone collected four RBIs, Aidan Quinn scored four runs while both posted three hits as Central Bucks West jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and went out to earn its third win in a row.
Carbone finished 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored with Quinn going 3-for-4 with a walk and a triple for the Bucks (3-4, 3-2 SOL Colonial), who plated a run in the top of the sixth to go up 7-0 before Souderton (3-3, 2-2 SOL Colonial) scored twice in the bottom of the frame. West then added four more runs in its half of the seventh.
Andrew Kohl was 2-for-4 with a walk, double, an RBI and three runs scored for the Bucks. Michael Bukowski and Damien Thomas both went 2-for-4 with two RBIs with Bukowski hit an RBI double in the second. Michael Boyle was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.
For Souderton, Shanley Wall was 2-for-2 with a walk, a double and RBI while Dante Bruno was 2-for-4.
Central Bucks South 10, Pennridge 0 (6) >> Alex Balint and Joe Rooney combined to pitch a two-hit shutout as Central Bucks South jumped out to a 8-0 lead after three innings and rolled to its third straight win in the SOL Colonial contest.
Owen Petrich hit a three-run home run in the top of the first and finished 2-for-2 with two walks, three RBI and three runs scored. Carter Hinds was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs for the Titans (4-1, 3-1 division) while Tyler Robinson had a two-RBI double in the sixth.
Balint earned the win, allowing one hit, two walks and struck out seven. Rooney pitched the seven, gave up a hit and struck out three.
South plated a run in the second to go up 4-0 then extended the lead with a four-run third on a Yang bases-loaded RBI single, an Eric Damico bases-loaded walk and a two-run passed ball.
