Haverford School falls to Malvern in PAISAA baseball semis
Chris Newell and Tristan Corcoran ended Haverford School’s quest for the PAISAA baseball title.
Newell hit a pair of solo homers and Corcoran tossed a complete game to lead Malvern Prep to a 5-1 victory over the Fords in the semifinals Saturday afternoon.
Corcoran allowed four hits and fanned eight to get the win.
Calvin Costner slugged a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to account for the Fords’ only run. Costner finished with two hits, and Luke Kania and Pat Toal had the other safeties for Haverford School (20-5).
The Friars went on to win their third straight PAISAA title and sixth in the last eight years with a walk-off, nine-inning 5-4 victory over Perkiomen School. Cam Conley drove in Newell with the winning run. Newell tied the game with a solo home run in the seventh inning. Josh Paulina came out of the bullpen and fanned 13 of the 15 batters he faced to get the win.
