Reporter Baseball Roundup: Hatboro-Horsham’s Wilson, Tooley throw combined no-hitter in win over Cheltenham
Benny Wilson and Jimmy Tooley combined to throw a no-hitter while the Hatboro-Horsham baseball team scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Hatters earned a 3-1 SOL American Conference win over visiting Cheltenham Thursday.
Wilson started the game and pitched 6 1/3 innings to claimed the win, the junior allowing one unearned, walking three and striking out seven.
Sophomore Tooley had a strikeout in getting the final two outs to pick up his third save of the season. He also recorded the go-ahead hit in the fifth, a two-run triple putting the Hatters (7-2, 4-1 conference) up 2-1. Tooley then came home on a Jake Bianchini RBI fielder’s choice to make it 3-1.
Cheltenham (3-3, 3-2) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when the Panthers loaded the bases with no outs on an error, hit batter and a walk. With two outs, an error following an attempted pickoff allowed Francisco Lopez to score.
North Penn 10, Central Bucks West 2 >> Jake Drelick and Jack Morello both had multi-hit games as home side North Penn led 9-0 lead after four innings in putting an end to its four-game losing skid.
Drelick finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while Morello went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored for the Knights (3-5, 1-3 SOL Continental), who pulled away with a five-run third to go up 8-0. Connor Ertel and Ryan Feister each collected two RBIs.
NP starting pitcher Josh Lowe earned his first varsity win, giving up two runs — both earned — on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out five.
Rhys Nicholas was 2-for-4 with a triple for CB West (5-4, 2-2), which had its three-game win streak snapped. The Bucks scored both of their runs in the sixth.
