Two-time Pioneer Athletic Conference singles champion Patrick Pascual, of Spring-Ford, eased into the semifinals Thursday on Day 1 of the PAC-10 Singles Tournament at Perkiomen Valley High School.
Pascual, the No. 1 seed, is joined by the Perkiomen Valley duo of Luke Pain, the No. 2 seed and last year’s finalist, and Shaan Kawalramani (No. 5) and Methacton’s Nick Simeone (No. 3) in the semifinals.
All four were straight-set winners in both matches, Simeone’s 6-2, 6-2 win over Spring-Ford Nick Griswold the most competitive of the quarterfinals.

[dropcap]#3[/dropcap] Horan keys second-half surge, Haverford pulls away
The Fords (7-4, 5-1) took some time getting started in their Thursday league game at Penncrest (4-6, 2-4) before they took over in the second half and rolled to a 19-9 decision over the Lions.
After Tuesday’s Central League victory over Radnor, Haverford High girls lacrosse coach Nancy McGoldrick was telling her players about how long it had been since the Fords had beaten the Raiders.
“She said it was 1998,” Haverford senior Tess Horan said. “That was the year I was born.”

[dropcap]#4[/dropcap] Inside-the-park slam highlights Chester’s first win
Shamour Young’s first-inning, inside-the-park grand slam got Chester off and running and carried the Clippers to a 14-4 victory over Glen Mills in Del Val League baseball action Thursday.
It was Chester’s first victory of the season and the first win for head coach Eugene Campbell.
Young also had a three-run home run in the second and finished the game with 7 RBIs, while starting pitcher Tyrone Johnson struck out seven and gave up three earned runs over six innings for the Clippers (1-5, 1-5).

[dropcap]#5[/dropcap] Hunter’s goal leads D-East to double overtime win over D-West
Whether it is a game or practice, Downingtown East girls lacrosse coach Christa Somits has preached all year long that her team must be relentless.
Her message was received loud and clear on Thursday night. The Cougars had to overcome a 26-minute scoring drought and a three-goal deficit with under 12 minutes left in regulation, but in the end, Leah Hunter helped them prevail. The sophomore midfielder’s double-overtime goal helped her team upend crosstown foe Downingtown West, 8-7, at DiSerafino Stadium.

[dropcap]#6[/dropcap] Game-ending double play lifts Plymouth Whitemarsh over Norristown
Norristown was losing by one and had the bases loaded with one out and the top of its lineup coming up in the top of the seventh inning. At the very least, it looked like the Eagles were going to make Plymouth Whitemarsh bat in the bottom of the frame.
Norristown’s Tyler Pastella had already hit the ball hard three times in the game – two singles and a line drive back to the pitcher that was caught. He hit this one hard, too, but, again, it was caught.
PW shortstop Matt Disisto grabbed the liner and flipped to Adam McKinlay at second base for the double play to end the game, giving the Colonials a 5-4 Suburban One League American Conference win Thursday afternoon at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.

[dropcap]#8[/dropcap] Pottsgrove suddenly streaking, edges Pottstown in rivalry game
It took Pottsgrove 23 days and 10 games to become acquainted with the winning feeling.
Now that they have, the Falcons are putting a tight grip on the experience.
Pottsgrove followed Wednesday’s ice-breaking 8-5 victory over Upper Perkiomen with another Thursday. It rallied for a 6-5 win over Pottstown at Bobby Shantz Field … and left first-year head coach Jamie Nash with pleasant uncertainty on one subject.
