Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Dutch Reardon commits to Rowan University
LOWER GWYNEDD >> Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Joseph “Dutch” Reardon committed to Rowan University to continue his education and baseball career last week.
“I’m very excited,” Reardon said after a game against Wissahickon. “I loved the campus, loved the coaches over there and I’m ready to get going.
“I really fell in love with the campus and the coaches have really good concepts of the game.”
The senior has been playing catcher and batting in the two-hole for the Colonials this season. He is a four-year starter who also has experience playing first base and third base.
“I’m not sure yet,” Reardon said of where he will play at Rowan. “I think the first open spots over there are somewhere in their corner spots, so I’d like to get on the field as soon as I can in the corners.”
After last season, Reardon was chosen to play for the Suburban One League American/Continental team in the Carpenter Cup Classic. He had two RBI in a first-round win against Chester County.
Since his freshman year, Reardon has the most plate appearances by any Plymouth Whitemarsh player with 159 and counting.
“Dutch is a kid that for four years has always done his work,” PW coach Chris Manero said. “He is a guy that I rely on a lot. When we need something done, I go to Dutch. When I need a message to be relayed, I go to Dutch. He works harder than probably any player I’ve ever coached. He deserves everything that hopefully comes his way. He’s battled. He’s had his ups and downs, but through that he’s always been the epitome of what you want all your players to do in terms of off the field and on the field. We’re really happy for him and I think Rowan is getting an absolute first-class individual in Dutch.”
Rowan, located in Glassboro, N.J., plays in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Profs have won the Division III National Championship in 1978 and 1979 and reached the Division III World Series in 2004 and 2005.
