O’Hara’s Neill twirls gem, stymies Bonner’s big bats
Cardinal O’Hara’s Billy Neill silenced Bonner’s bats and made noise with his own as the Lions defeated the Friars, 3-1, at home in Catholic League play.
Neill pitched a complete game and struck out eight. At the plate, he doubled home a pair of runs. O’Hara improves to 5-1 overall, 3-1 in the PCL.
In the Central League:
Penncrest 5, Radnor 2 >> Sam Freedman smacked two doubles and drove in two runs as the Lions (3-3) won on the road. Anthony Costalas contributed two hits and scored twice. Andrew Austen went 2 for 3 for the Raiders (0-5, 0-5).
Marple Newtown 6, Harriton 1 >> The Tigers used a balanced offense to score a run in four of the first five innings. Ricky Collings had four hits in the victory. Alden Mathes had a triple and scored twice.
Springfield 11, Upper Darby 1 >> The Cougars scored 11 runs on 11 hits with eight different players contributing. Brandon DiChiachio led the way with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Garnet Valley 10, Lower Merion 3 >> Mason Miller drove in four runs with two doubles as the Jags routed the Aces. Matt Lupoli earned the win.
In the Inter-Ac League:
Episcopal Academy 3, Penn Charter 2 >> An 11-strikeout complete-game effort by Kyle Virbitzky helped the Churchmen hold off the Quakers. AJ Lotsis drove in two runs to lead the EA offense.
In the Bicentennial League:
Delco Christian 12, Phil-Mont 2 >> Former ping pong player Josiah Chow collected his first career varsity hit in the Knights’ rout. Delco Christian improves to 5-1, 4-1 in the league.
In nonleague action:
Haverford School 2, Strath Haven 1 >> Grady Nance scattered four hits over seven innings and struck out nine to help the Fords win at home.
