OTD 2012: Coatesville gets past Unionville in first round of playoffs

Coatesville started the 2012 District 1-4A playoffs as the No. 9 seed, which meant a trip to Unionville for a rematch of the week five blowout by the Red Raiders.

This would not be a repeat of the first meeting, however, despite Coatesville jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the second quarter. 

Unionville’s Tommy Pancoast threw a 20-yard touchdown to Garrett Scargill and Coatesville’s halftime lead was just 10-7. 

But the second half belonged to Daquan Worley. The Coatesville junior ran for 149 of his 228 yards in the second half, giving him his second 200-yard game in three weeks. 

Emmett Hunt kicked off the second half scoring with his second one-yard sneak, but Unionville responded with another TD pass from Pancoast, this time to Patch Johnson. 

Unionville then got a stop on defense and drove deep into Coatesville territory before turning it over on downs.

Worley picked up 50 yards on the ensuing drive, the final five for a touchdown. Another Worley TD made it, 31-14, Coatesville, but once against Pancoast threw a TD to keep Unionville in the game.

Unionville recovered the onsides kick, but Tyler Burke picked off a pass on that drive, setting up a 68-yard TD run by Dre Boggs to end Unionville’s hopes.

The game marked Hunt’s only game of the season where he did not throw a TD, and he only had 82 passing yards on six-of-15 passing. All six completions were to Chris Jones. 

Isaiah Flamer had two interceptions for Coatesville, who advanced to the second round for the second straight season with a 38-21 win. 

The Red Raiders expected to find top-seeded and undefeated Downingtown East waiting for them in a highly-anticipated rematch, but the Cougars got caught looking ahead and were upset by No. 16 Wissahickon.
