DLN Roundup: D-West’s Gross leads district golf after first round

Ches-Mont League golfers occupy the top two spots after the first day of the District 1 Class AAA Boys Golf Individual Championships at Turtle Creek Golf Course.
Junior Nick Gross of Downingtown West has a three-shot lead after a six-under-par 66. Ches-Mont League champion Sam Feeney of West Chester Rustin is second with a 3-under 69.
Rustin’s Sam Houchen shot an even-par 72, good for a sixth-place tie. Kasim Narinesingh-Smith of Kennett shot a 75 along with Josh Baker of Henderson. Trevor Sikorski of Avon Grove, Henderson’s Sean Surowiec, Kyle Mauro of Conestoga, Brady Manning of Downingtown West and Rustin’s Evan Rydel all carded 76s.

District 1 Championships >> Silvana Gonzalez of Downingtown West leads Chester County golfers with a two-over-par 73 at the District 1 Championships at Ravens Claw Golf Club. Gonzalez is tied for first after the first of two rounds, six shots behind Stefania Fedun of Owen J. Roberts. Mary Dunigan of Unionville shot a 76 and freshman Lily Kochersperger of Kennett made the cut 82. In the team competition, Unionville is fourth, Downingtown East fifth and Conestoga is sixth.

Girls Soccer
Villa Maria 7, Merion Mercy 2 >> Carly Catania had four goals and Kaelyn Wolfe added two goals and three assists as the Hurricanes (6-1, 12-1) rolled to the AACA victory. Kate Kemmerley collected a goal and two assists.

Oxford 2, Kennett 1, OT >> Olivia Voss scored on a breakaway following a through pass from Alex Intonato in the second overtime to let the Hornets (2-6 Ches-Mont American, 3-10) post the Ches-Mont victory. The goal was Voss’ second second of the game. She headed in a corner kick from Sullivan McCouch to tie the score with 18:21 left in the second half. Ava Schlosser tallied on a rebound early in the second half to give the Blue Demons the lead. Kennett goalkeeper Zoey Ernst made 17 saves, while Kaelyn Phouthavongsa made 16 stops for Oxford.
