Faith Christian’s Frantz falls in PIAA 2A finals

HERSHEY >> Faith Christian’s Toby Frantz made an impressive run to the Class 2A finals with three wins without dropping a set.

Frantz began play on Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Josh Dunham of Mars.

Next up Frantz dispatched Juniata’s Max Lauver by a 6-1, 6-0 score. Frantz then stunned District 3 champion and defending state champion Nile Abadir of Lancaster Country Day in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. Unfortunately, Frantz ran out of steam and lost 6-0, 6-0 to Nicolas Scheller of North Catholic in the state finals, who dropped a total of five games in four matches.

In Class 3A, Central Mountan sophomore David Lindsay has been a one-ball wrecking crew. First, Lindsay routed Lower Merion’s Brian Yi in the second round 6-1, 6-2.

Then he stopped District 1 champ Council Rock South’s Mikkel Zinder 6-3, 6-0 in the semifinals. Lindsay then defeated Jake Patterson of South Fayette for the state title 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Zinder took third with a 6-2, 6-3 romp of Justin Xu of Conestoga.

In Class 3A doubles, Downingtown East’s Abhiraj Srivastava/ Abhineet Srivastava survived two three-set matches to advance to the finals. There, they were stopped by Palmyra’s Tyler and Aiden Mahaffey in the finals by scores of 6-1, 7-6.
