Coatesville, Downingtown East meet to decide Ches-Mont League National title

By Pete DiGiovanni

Week 10, the last week of the regular season is here and area teams are jockeying for playoff position and a Ches-Mont league division championship. Here is a look at all the week 10 action.

Downingtown East (9-1) at Coatesville (9-1)
This game is for the Ches-Mont National crown and should be a close contest. The Cougars are coming off a last-second win over Downingtown West while the Red Raiders defeated Bishop Shanahan.
Downingtown East will have to be able to run the football and Bo Horvath had 202 yards against West. Cougars quarterback Jamy Jenkins has been playing well lately.
Coatesville’s defense is led by Nolan O Hara, who had 12 tackles against Bishop Shanahan and is a terrific player.

Chichester (5-2) at Bishop Shanahan (6-3)
This is a big game in the District 1 4A bracket. The Eagles’ high-powered offense, led by Cooper Jordan, who threw for 226 yards last week against Coatesville, should be able to move the ball well here. Chichester has gone 1-1 against county teams, losing to Kennett and beating West Chester East. The defense has pitched two straight shutouts.
Bishop Shanahan 31, Chichester 21

Avon Grove (3-6) at Downingtown West (4-5)
A win here will give Downingtown West a shot at a 6A playoff spot. Avon Grove has given up more than 30 points in its last three games and this is not a good time to be playing a desperate Whippets team.

Kennett (7-2) at WC East (1-8)
Kennett needs a win here to secure a first round home playoff game in the 5A bracket. Kennett quarterback Kalen Frazier is a dual threat for the Blue Demons. It had been a long season for the Vikings.

Oxford (4-5) at West Chester Henderson (4-5)
Both teams are in the 5A playoffs but whoever wins this could get a first round home game. The Warriors looked very good last week in a 41-20 win over West Chester East.
Warriors’ quarterback Eddie Smink has been hot lately, throwing for 267 yards and three scores against West Chester East. Oxford has depended on its defense all season and the Hornets secondary will be tested here.WC Henderson 28, Oxford 14

Great Valley (3-6) at Unionville (8-1)
Unionville has won four in a row after a loss to Downingtown East. The Longhorns have arguably the best zone read running game in the Ches-Mont.
Great Valley needs a win here to get into the 5A playoffs. Lineman Brandon May has had a good season and quarterback Andy Talone is a playmaker.
Unionville 35, Great Valley 14

Sun Valley (2-7) at West Chester Rustin (7-1)
Rustin is the top seed in the 5A bracket and the Golden Knights are averaging over 250 yards rushing per game. The Rustin offensive line has been blowing people off the ball.
WC Rustin 42, Sun Valley 13

Conestoga (7-2) at Ridley (8-1)
Conestoga will make the 6A playoffs and with a win, will secure a first-round home game. The Pioneers defense will have to play well against a Ridley team that averages 32 points per game and had outscored its last three opponents by a 182-6 margin.
Ridley 28, Conestoga 21

Germantown Academy (4-2) at Malvern Prep (5-2), Saturday
The visiting Patriots may pose the biggest threat to the Friars Inter-Ac title hopes. Malvern has been rushing the ball well lately with Isaiah Wright going for 262- and 164-yards the past two weeks.
The Patriots offense is a skilled one that can score points but the Malvern Prep defense is one of the best in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
