ROUNDUP: Chung, Upper Darby stun Strath Haven in extra innings
Upper Darby’s Chris Chung won’t soon forget his first varsity at-bat.
Chung’s bunt back to the mound in the eighth inning forced an errant throw to first base and allowed the go-ahead run to score from third. The Royals tacked on four more runs on the way to a 9-4 victory over Central League frontrunner Strath Haven.
Chung picked up the win in relief, throwing three no-run, no-hit frames with two strikeouts.
Mike Valente led the Panthers with a hit and two RBIs.
AJ Dicus belted a home run and finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Jake Franzini added two hits, including a double, and scored a pair of runs.
Elsewhere in the Central League:
Penncrest 10, Lower Merion 0 >> Kellen Davis racked up 13 strikeouts over five innings of shutout ball. He allowed only one hit.
At the dish, Davis went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Quentin Perilli (three RBIs), Christian Reed (four runs), Brett Bonebrake (two RBIs) and Luke Cavanaugh (one RBI) all supplied two hits for the Lions.
In nonleague action:
Delco Christian 10, Barrack Hebrew Academy 1 >> Robert Lucas blasted a pair of homers to support winning pitcher Jeremiah Chow, who struck out six and scattered four hits in six innings of work.
Josh Del’Arciprete doubled and tripled for the Knights, who pounded out nine hits.
