Reporter Boys Basketball Roundup: Neumann-Goretti tops Archbishop Wood for 1st in PCL
Neumann-Goretti 66, Archbishop Wood 55 >> Hysier Miller scored 20 points as Neumann-Goretti used strong play in the second and third quarters to win Friday’s night matchup between the last two unbeaten teams left in Philadelphia Catholic League play.
Marcus Randolph hit four 3-pointers in scoring 16 points to pace Archbishop Wood (13-4, 9-1 league), which had its 11-game win streak snapped.
Rahsool Diggins added 15 points while Jaylen Stinson had 13 points for the Vikings, who led 17-15 after quarter. The host Saints, however, outscored Wood 20-11 over the next eight minutes to go into halftime up 35-28. Neumann-Goretti (14-2, 8-0 PCL) stretched its advantage to 50-38 at the end of the third.
Hakim Byrd collected 17 points while Cameron Young finished with 10 points for the Saints, who won their seventh in a row.
The Christian Academy 64, Dock Mennonite 55 >> The Christian Academy outscored Dock Mennonite 23-11 in the second quarter, flipping a five-point deficit at the start of the period into a 30-23 lead at the half as the Crusaders won the matchup between the last two sides undefeated in BAL play.
The loss ended a six-game win streak for the Pioneers (12-4, 9-1 BAL Presidents). TCA (14-3, 11-0 BAL Constitution) extended its win streak to five.
Central Bucks East 50, North Penn 45 >> Central Bucks East connected on nine 3-pointers – four by Joe Jackman in scoring a team-high 18 points as the Patriots won their third straight in the SOL Continental contest.
Josh Jones finished with a game-high 23 points for North Penn (6-11, 2-6), which had a two-game win streak stopped.
Jack Hamilton recorded 10 points, nine rebounds and five blocks for East (12-7, 6-3), which led 27-17 at halftime. Tyler Young added nine points and six assists for the Patriots.
Germantown Academy 64, Episcopal Academy 58 >> Jordan Longino had 20 points as Germantown Academy built a 50-35 lead after three quarters and held off Episcopal Academy in the fourth to earn an Inter-Ac victory.
Luke Traina scored 10 points while Lacey Snowden and Zach Anderson both added nine points for the Patriots (12-7, 4-2), who have won two straight and four of their last five.
Episcopal’s Andrew Alikakos posted a game-high 21 points. Alex Capitano had 18 points for the Churchmen (9-12, 3-3) while Colin Chambers collected 13 points.
GA led 32-25 at halftime then outscored Episcopal 18-10 in the third.
Jenkintown 58, MaST Charter 49 >> Jenkintown led 49-21 after three quarters as it cruised to a third straight victory.
Clinton Jackmon scored a game-high 19 while Jadan Welch posted 17 points for the Drakes (5-11, 5-5 BAL Constitution), who led 17-5 after a quarter then 34-12 at halftime.
Jayden Birchmore’s 18 points paced MaST Charter (2-15, 1-0 BAL Presidents).
