The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Field Hockey All Area Teams
The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media area schools found plenty of success during the 2019 field hockey season.
During the regular season, Plymouth Whitemarsh and Souderton won league championships while Wissahickon, Springfield (Montco), Perk Valley and Archbishop Carroll were near the top of their league’s standings.
Plenty of area teams played deep into October during the postseason.
In Class-3A, Plymouth Whitemarsh, Perk Valley and Souderton made deep runs in the District 1 playoffs and qualified for states. PW reached the district title game while the Vikings advanced to the state quarterfinals.
In Class-2A, Mount St. Joseph Academy, Gwynedd Mercy Academy and Wissahickon each lost in the second round of the District 1 playoffs and needed to battle their way back into states. The Magic beat the Trojans and the Monarchs to punch their ticket to the PIAA postseason.
In Class-A, Springfield (Montco), Dock Mennonite Academy and Lower Moreland all reached the District 1 semifinals. The Spartans advanced to the district final and won a game in the state playoffs.
None of these achievements would have been possible without outstanding individual performances.
Below will be a few highlights followed by the All Area teams.
Alden Boccella became the first player in Gwynedd Mercy Academy field hockey history to score 100 goals. The achievement becomes even more impressive given her position of defensive midfielder.
Ava Borkowski is re-writing the record books at Plymouth Whitemarsh. She scored more than 50 goals this season and surpassed 100 in her career. She’s only a junior.
Courtney Kenah was an offensive weapon all season and came through when Souderton needed her most. She scored three goals in a 3-2 win over CB South to send Big Red to states for the first time in 12 years.
Megan Maransky always gets the attention of opposing defenses. Her signature game came against GMA in the district playbacks. She scored two goals, including the overtime game-winner, to send the Magic to the state playoffs.
