Shipley baseball squad advances to FSL championship game once again

The Shipley School baseball squad returned to the Friends School League championship for the second straight season, after pounding out 12 hits in a 9-6 semifinal playoff win over Friends Select Tuesday.

The Gators (15-7) will host the FSL championship game Friday against Moorestown Friends (N.J.) It was a rematch of the teams in the 2015 Friends School League championship game, in which Shipley came out on top 7-3. Friday’s FSL championship will be held at Ezra Keiser Fields (Main Campus), with free BBQ available for all fans.

In Shipley’s 9-6 semifinal win Tuesday, Blake Rodack, Gerard Sweeney, Pete Sobelman, Jesse Haines and Phil Johnson all had two hits to lead the offense. Sweeney led all hitters with three RBI’s while Haines and Johnson each had two. Jack Dougherty scattered five hits through 6.1 innings to get the win. Kevin Verzella earned his first save of the year.
