Carroll’s Kelly tabbed All-Catholic League

The 2016 Catholic League season hasn’t been the easiest on the three Delco schools. Archbishop Carroll, which has wins over Cardinal O’Hara and Bonner & Prendergast, found itself 11th, losing a de facto play-in game with Lansdale Catholic Wednesday that means the Patriots miss out on the 10-team Catholic League playoff. Bonner, meanwhile, has to beat Archbishop Ryan to earn a chance at a doubleheader with top-seeded Father Judge Saturday, which boasts the manager of the year and league MVP.

Carroll, however, had the only player of the three schools recognized as All-Catholic thanks to pitcher James Kelly. Teammate Nick Argentieri is a second-team outfielder, while Bonner catcher Steve Furman also lands on the second team. Furman was also recognized as the co-defensive player of the year with Brian Verratti of Neumann-Goretti. Cardinal O’Hara, the sixth seed in the postseason, lands three on the third team.
