Horan leads the way as Haverford rolls

Junior center-forward Tess Horan set the tone for the offense with two goals and two assists to lead Haverford High to a 7-0 victory over Upper Darby in Central League field hockey action Tuesday.

Gianna Truax had a hat trick, and Laura Winders added one goal and one assist.

Elsewhere in the Central League:

Strath Haven 1, Lower Merion 0: Katie Capalbo’s goal with roughly 2:30 left in regulation won it for the Panthers (5-2, 4-0). It was her third goal of the season.

Marple Newtown 2, Springfield 0: Cristen Rutecki and Nicole Smythe found the back of the net for the Tigers in the first half. Megan Peterson (four saves) posted the shutout.

Harriton 2, Garnet Valley 1: Carly Adams put home the winner for the Rams with 4:10 left in the game. Colleen Bradley scored in the second half to tie the game for the Jaguars. Goalie Hailey Valerio came up big for GV with 16 saves.

In the Bicentennial League:

Delco Christian 7, Morrisville 1: Jackie Barr scored twice to lead a six-goal eruption in the first half for the Knights (2-5, 2-3). Maggie Linton added one goal and one assist.

In the Del Val League:

Chichester 4, Academy Park 2: Amanda Focht and Haley Fritz tallied two goals each to keep the Eagles (2-3, 2-0) undefeated in the league. Meg Winner led a defense that allowed just one shot on goal.
