With the match on the line Wednesday night, Cleveland Woodson needed just 14 seconds to work a pin and lead Archbishop Carroll to a 42-36 win over Bristol in a nonleague wrestling match.
The crucial bout came one match earlier, when Kevin Carroll earned six points with a third-period pin at 215 pounds to tie the match at 36. Woodson followed at heavyweight, pinning Marco Berrocal in 14 seconds.
Carroll trailed much of the way. Kyle Conlen’s pin at 139 tied the match at 18, then Andre Ingles re-tied it at 24 with a pin in 38 seconds at 152. A pin by Bristol’s Jared Mendoza put the Warriors ahead again before Kyle Comstock won by fall at 172 pounds in 3:12.
Hayden Skowronek (114) and Kyle Conlen (139) also won by fall for the Patriots.
Girls Swimming
Hannah Neilly won the 200 freestyle and 500 free, and Maggie Sgaramella claimed the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly as Episcopal Academy topped Hill School, 111-65, in a nonleague meet.
Ivie Enakhimion, like Sgaramella a freshman, won the 50 free. Senior Emma Lunn claimed the 100 free, and Mia Filipovski was quickest in the 100 backstroke. Joy Ying was the top scorer in diving.
Bonner & Prendergast 65, Archbishop Carroll 21 >> Abigail Blemings led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 free to pace the Pandas. Blemings was also quickest in the 100 breast.
Carroll’s Gracey Brogan won the 200 free and 100 free.
Grace McBlain of Bonner & Prendie posted solid times — 2:18.92 in the 200 IM, 1:02.23 in the 100 fly — despite swimming unopposed.
Boys Swimming
Chase Bearley swept the sprints and led off both winning free relays as Episcopal Academy downed Hill School, 109-71.
Henry Haupt won the 200 free and 100 breast. Aiden Tsaturyan won the 100 fly and 100 back, and Luke Filipovski claimed the 500 free. Diving went EA’s way, too, thanks to Owen McCabe.
Bonner sweeps tri-meet >> Bonner & Prendergast won all three relays and augmented two wins each from James Bryan and Joshua Travers in topping Archbishop Carroll, 47-25, and Devon Prep, 48-33.
Bryan won the 200 free and 100 free. Travers claimed the 200 IM and 100 fly. Liam Wettlaufer added a win in the 50 free.
Carroll freshman Konnor Roselle won the 500 free.
Girls Basketball
Taylor Wilson scored seven points, but Westtown School opened up a huge advantage after the break to claim a 64-24 win over Archbishop Carroll.
Brooke Wilson and Alexis Ebert added five points each for Carroll (0-1).
Mount St. Joseph’s 51, Notre Dame 41 >> Katie Halligan scored 13 points, and Annie Greek chipped in seven, but the Irish couldn’t product a one-point halftime lead. Lizzie Halligan added six points.
Boys Basketball
KJ Carson scored 14 points as Haverford School rallied in the fourth to top Friends Central, 58-54, late Tuesday.
Silas Graham scored 13 points, and Manny Butts added 12 for the Fords, who trailed by three going into the final eight minutes.
Duke Cloran (eight points) hit a pull-up jumper with 10 seconds to play to put the game away.
TCA 79, Faith Christian 51 >> Jahbril White went off for 28 points, including five triples, to lead the Crusaders. Joseph Graves poured in1 6 points, and Noah Boyd added 10 for TCA in its season debut.
