The Conestoga senior 145-pounder earned his 100th career win Feb. 8, pinning Ridley’s Jacy Shaak in 1:15 to bring his career record to 100-28. As a junior, he compiled a 33-4 record, won the Central League Championship, finished first at Sectionals and placed fifth at Districts. As a sophomore he compiled a 24-11 record and placed fourth at Districts, and as a freshman he was 22-10. He also plays varsity baseball for the Pioneers.
Q: Tell us a little about your 100th win Feb. 8. What was the most memorable moment of the evening – can you share it with us?
A: The most memorable moment was definitely being congratulated my friends, family, and teammates after my match. It was very nice knowing all who supported me.
Q: What do you consider your best match so far this season, and what was working particularly well for you that day?
A: My best match this season was one of our first dual meets against Haverford High (a technical fall against Noah Strehse Dec. 21) because I think I wrestled my best and was very confident. In addition, the whole team wrestled great in that meet.
Q: What do you consider your biggest strength and what you are working on most currently?
A: My biggest strength I believe is my work ethic. Right now I am working on finishing my shots and lifting the opponent of the mat.
Q: Who has been your biggest wrestling mentor, and what is the biggest thing he taught you?
A: My biggest wrestling mentor has been Coach Gary Baker. Coach Baker has been one of my coaches since my first year of wrestling. He has taught me a lot of what I know about wrestling. He has not only taught me about wrestling but he has taught me the right way to act off the mat. It is important to be mean on the mat but nice off the mat.
Q: Tell us a little about your pre-match preparation the day of a match.
A: Before each of my matches I normally listen to some of my pump up songs and I try to be as relaxed as I can throughout the day.
