Austin DeSanto and Dylan Harr joined two other Berks Conference wrestlers in qualifying for the Class AAA medal round during Friday’s action from the PIAA Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey.
DeSanto, an Exeter junior sporting a 49-0 record this season, is in the 120-pound’s semifinal round. He used a 13-5 major decision of Liberty’s KJ Fenstermacher to stay in the gold-medal chase, his next opponent Pine Richland’s Hunter Baxter.
Harr edged Mifflin County’s Trey Hartsock 4-3 to make the semis at 195. The Governor Mifflin senior brings a 32-5 record into Saturday’s action.
DeSanto’s senior teammate, Brett Kulp, qualified for the medal round at 132 with a 5-4 decision of Plum’s Tommy Zummo. Aided by two victories in wrestlebacks, Kulp’s season record is currently 46-5.
Daniel Boone junior Jesse Enck (38-4) will be shooting for a medal at 220. He will become the Blazers’ first state medalist since Chris Gallino (189) and Carmello Marreo (275) placed fifth in 1999.
