Kody Reichart came home with a state medal last week when he finished in seventh place at the PIAA Class AA state wrestling championships held at Hersheypark Arena Feb. 5-7.
Brandywine Heights had three wrestlers at the tournament, but none of them earned a medal. Colin Conrad (285) and Hunter Gimbor (138) each went 1-2 in the tournament, while Cole Swackhamer (195) lost his first two bouts.
Reichart began his trek to a medal by pinning Cole Fuller of Western Wayne in 2:41. But in the quarterfinals, Reichart was pinned in 43 seconds by the eventual weight class champion, Reynold Maines of West Branch.
The loss sent Reichart to the consolation round where he earned a 9-4 decision over Ty Smith of Notre Dame GP. He then lost to Sam McCollum of Bermudian Springs, 3-1 in overtime. Although he lost the bout, he still had one more bout left in the season, the one for seventh place. There he earned a 6-4 decision over Dan Scheib of Tri-Valley.
At 285 pounds, Conrad opened his tournament with a 3-2 victory over Anthony Collins of Berlin-Bros. That would be his last victory of his season as he then lost a 3-0 decision to Saul Wilkes of G.A.R. Memorial. That sent him to the consolation bracket where he ended his season with a 3-0 loss to Redbank Valley’s Brylee Shumaker.
At the 138 pound weight class, Gimbor won his first bout of the tournament, 6-4 in overtime over Nate Jones of South Williamsport. He went on to the quarterfinals where he lost to Mike Carr of South Fayette, 7-0. In the consolation bracket. Gimbor ended his season with a 5-2 loss to Dylan Rynkiewicz of Tamaqua.
In the 195 pound weight class, Swackhamer lost his first bout when he was pinned in 1:05 by Luke Fournier of Elizabeth Forward. He then lost a 7-0 decision to Ryan Geyer of Ridgeway.
