At the District 3-AA Section 2 wrestling tournament this past weekend at Annville-Clona High School, Brandywine Heights finished in seventh place as a team, while Kutztown finished in 12th place.
Below are the results from the local wrestlers at the tournament.
106 pounds: Trevor Gimbor of Brandywine Heights was victorious in his first bout, a 5-1 decision over Dustin Breidegan of Northern Lebanon. But Joe Lobeck Lancaster Catholic sent Gimbor to the wrestle back bracket by pinning him in 56 seconds.
In Gimbor’s first wrestle back match, he lost to Connor Yourkavich of Wyomissing, 1-0 to end his season.
Kutztown’s Kyle Wehr was pinned in 1:31 in his first match against Joel Orlando of Schuylkill Valley.120 pounds: Brandywine’s Hunter Gimbor began with a 2-0 victory over Mason Shuman of Schuylkill Valley in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Gimbor earned another 2-0 victory, this time against Joshua Renninger of Annville-Cleona.
In the championship match, Gimbor suffered a 5-3 loss to Sean Stanish of Hamburg.126 pounds: Austin Weller of Brandywine Heights got his tournament started by pinning Jakob Naylor of Wyomissing in 1:32. In the quarterfinals, Weller was pinned by John Lobeck of Lancaster Catholic in 3:05.
In the wrestle back bracket, Weller fought his way back to earn fifth place and a spot in the District 3 Tournament.138 pounds: Brandywine Height’s Dan Schmeck made it all the way to the championship bout before having to forfeit to Jeffrey Inman of Annville-Cleona.
After a first round bye, Schmeck pinned Jacob Horst of Schuylkill Valley in 3:17. In the semifinals, Schmeck earned a 6-3 decision over Nick Oswald of Hamburg.
Kutztown’s Nathan Bowman won his first bout in the preliminary round, defeating Kody Kreiser of Northern Lebanon, 15-8. But in the quarterfinals, Angel Canela of Wyomissing pinned Bowman in 3:50. He was not able to fight back through the wrestle back bracket to earn a spot in the district tournament.145 pounds: Robbie Delong of Brandywine Heights opened his tournament by pinning Brandon Hughes of Bishop McDevitt in 1:24. But in the quarterfinals, Delong lost to Wyomissing’s Caleb Naylor, 18-1.
Delong advanced to the fifth place bout where he was pinned by Elijah Zimmerman of Schuylkill Valley. Since the top six advance to the district tournament, Delong’s season is still alive.
Kutztown’s Carissa Wehr was pinned in 36 seconds by Zimmerman in the first round.152 pounds: Zach Sessions needed just 1:35 to pin Peter Bonino of Wyomissing in the first round, but was pinned in 2:58 by Schuylkill Valley’s Ryan Ramich, who eventually went on to win the weight class.160 pounds: Kutztown’s Nicholas Dengler was pinned in 2:49 of his first round match-up with Michael Huber of Pequea Valley. He lost early in the wrestle back and did not qualify for the district tournament.170 pounds: Cole Swackhamer of Brandywine Heights advanced all the way to the championship bout where he was pinned in 16 seconds by Zane Black of Bishop MeDevitt.
Swackhamer pinned Donnie Broomell of Pequea Valley in 3:41 of their quarterfinal round bout. Then Swackhamer pinned Wyomissing’s Shawn Kihefner of Wyomissing in 1:43 in the semifinals.
Kutztown’s Gabriel Yerger was pinned in 1:57 by Broomell, then ended his season in the wrestle back bracket.182 pounds: Phillip Donner of Kutztown was pinned in 1:37 by Colby Geisinger of Schuylkill Valley in the quarterfinals.220 pounds: Cody Reichart was Kutztown’s highest finisher, taking second place in this weight class. He started with a pin of Brandon Light of Annville-Cleona in 2:59. In his semifinal match, Reichart earned a 9-4 decision over Matt Vines of Northern Lebanon.
That sent him to the championship bout where he was beaten by Cole Nye of Bishop McDevitt by the narrowest of margins, 5-4.285 pounds: Collin Conrad of Brandywine Heights also made it to the championship round, but had to settle for second place when Andres Munoz of Columbia defeated him, 5-1.
Conrad began the tournament with a 1:52 pin of George Thompson of Northern Lebanon. In the semifinals, Conrad earned a 4-2 overtime decision over Blake Roberts of Hamburg.
