Lower Merion boys’ tennis team captures 3rd consecutive district title

The Lower Merion High School boys’ tennis team won their third consecutive District 1 3A team tournament championship, outplaying Conestoga in the championship final, 3-1, Tuesday. The Aces head into the PIAA 3A state team tournament as two-time defending state champions.

At first singles, Brian Yi clinched the victory by defeating Chait Krishna, 6-3, 6-0; at second singles, Conestoga’s Justin Xu defeated Mark Lancaster, 6-2, 6-2; at third singles, Nathan Dolgushev defeated Voyin Markovic, 6-0, 6-1.

At first doubles, Stoyan Angelov and Hayden Masotti defeated Basil Lubiniecki and Aaron Sun, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. At the time of stoppage, Lower Merion’s second doubles, David Liu and Charlie Bittinger, were tied with Conestoga’s Vincent Yao and Raphael Lubiniecki, 7-5, 4-6, 2-2.

The Aces’ first-round match in the PIAA 3A state tournament will be played May 16.
