The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Local Roundup (May 8th): Upper Dublin still alive for state berth

Upper Dublin 3, Great Valley 2: The 10th-seeded Cardinals pulled off the upset over the sixth seeds are are now one win from the PIAA 3A Tournament courtesy of some gutsy performances. No. 1 singles player Scott Schlackman recovered from a battle with blisters to pull off a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 thriller over Krish Mendiratta to clinch the victory.

Tommaso Serafini (6-0, 6-4) and the No. 2 doubles team of Hugh Devine/Noah Cohen (6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (5)) also posted victories. Upper Dublin thought it was close to the win at No. 1 doubles but the duo of Zach Hunter/Tripp Maginfesta lost a heartbreaker 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 to William Otterbein/Anuj Awatrami. Upper Dublin will face the No. 5 seed Harriton for fifth place on Tuesday and a trip to states. Great Valley also won a point at No. 2 singles where Revant Mendiratta won 6-4, 6-1 over Tim Sheaffer.

Baseball
Methacton 4, Boyertown 2: Bob Kleckner and Kross Howarth had two hits each to power the offense for the Warriors on Monday. The damage was done in the first inning when Jake Chapman singled to lead off the first inning and Bob Kleckner doubled in a run. Kross Howarth then followed with a two-run home run, giving the Warriors enough runs early to hold the lead. Ty Lohsen threw 6.2 innings, scattering five hits and giving up two runs while striking out eight and walking two for the victory on the mound. Matt Christian picked up the one-out save for the Warriors (15-3).

Pope John Paul II 3, Upper Perk 1: A.J. Diaddezio tossed a three-hitter after recovering from a first-inning run as the Golden Panthers were victorious on Monday. Luke Terlesky provided the offense with a two-run triple, while Brendan Kenning added three hits of his own.

Softball

Spring-Ford 12, Norristown 2: The Rams led 5-0 after two innings and coasted to the PAC win on Monday. Norristown losing pitcher Ryan Morse helped her own cause with a single and two RBIs. In the circle she allowed five hits and four runs in four innings.

Upper Perk 11, Pope John Paul II 1: PJP fell behind 6-0 after two innings and never recovered on Monday. Molly Houchins had the only hit for PJP.

Girls lacrosse
Wissahickon 20, Tennent 2: Giana Maiale and Alexa McCabe each scored three goals as the Trojans won big on Monday. Also scoring for Wissahickon were Rylie Slobotkin (2), Maddie Radell (2), Sadie Fox, Nora Ryan, Sophia Stehlik, Thalia Tsiobikas, Olivia Bellinzoni, Allie Pijanowski, Cate Kroznuski, Ellie Stein, Adriana Crawford and Dani Brog.

North Penn 17, Souderton 8: The game was tied 6-6 at the half before the Knights pulled away on Monday in SOL National action for their eighth straight victory. Ang Borisow scored three goals, while Avery Farina and Tatum Andrews both scored twice for Souderton. Gabby Hirschmann made six saves in net for the Indians.

Mount St. Joe’s 17, Delco Christian 6: The Mount took a 12-0 lead into the half and coasted to the nonconference win on Monday. Maggie Rezza and Amelia Clair each led the way with three goals. Kate Donovan  and Mads Maszczak each added two goals, while Katie Westmoreland, Devin Loome, Nora Feliciano, Meghan Holmes, Kat Zampirri, Gabby Clair and Taylor Delli Carpini also tallied goals. Annie Shields made five saves in net, including the 500th of her career.

Boys volleyball

Souderton 3, Spring-Ford 0: The Indians swept the nonconference match on Monday as Nate Brown had 12 kills, 2 blocks, 6 digs 7 assists and 2 aces. Also standing out for Souderton were Aiden Aldredge (4 kills, 3 blocks), Ian Nice (4 kills, 2 blocks, 8 digs, 2 aces), Derek Gilmore (23 kills 4, blocks, 4 digs), Alec Kreiser (5 digs, 1 ce), Ethan Frattarelli ( 4 kills, 4 digs) and Matt Quizon (3 kills, 2 blocks).
