Harriton’s Ade Lloyd is Main Line Boys Athlete of the Week (May 1-7)

The sophomore runner finished first in the 400 meter run at the 34th Father Judge Invitational April 22, and his winning time of 48.74 broke the meet record as well as the school record. Lloyd also placed third in the 200 meter dash at the meet. Lloyd, who has qualified for the upcoming PIAA District 1 Track & Field Championship in both the 200 meter run and 400 meter run, is currently ranked eighth in the state for the 400 meter run and in the top 25 in the 200 meter dash. During the indoor track season last winter, Lloyd qualified for the state championship meet.

Q: What is your strongest memory of your 400 meter race at the Father Judge Invitational, where you finished first?

A: My strongest memory of the race is when I was in the last 100 meters. It was a close finish and I just pushed myself to finish hard all the way to the line.

Q: What was the key to your performance that day?

A: My goal was to try to get out, run the curve and keep proper form all the way to the finish line.

Q: What is your favorite memory of the Penn Relays this past week?

A: My favorite memory of Penn Relays is during the 4×400 relay when I ran a personal best of 47.5 and we came in fifth.

Q: What do you find to be the most challenging aspect of running an indoor track, as compared to running an outdoor track?

A: If I had to pick which one is more challenging between indoor and outdoor, I would say indoor is harder because it feels like I am moving slower indoors due to the tighter curves and lack of fresh air.

Q: Tell us a little about your running shoes, the type of shoe you favor and why.

A: My favorite shoe is probably my Maxfly spikes. I have them in pink and I feel so light and fast when wearing them.

Q: What aspect of your running are you working on most currently?

A: My start, specifically coming out of the blocks.

Q: Tell us a little about your pre-race preparation on the day of a race.

A: I try to not say much and just focus on mentally locking in before my races.

Q: What is your favorite academic course at Harriton? Is there a particular career field that interests you at the present time?

A: Math is my favorite subject; I really enjoy math and I think it’s fun. I’m interested in being a coach and majoring in business.
