North Penn hitting its stride, pulls away to win over Souderton

FRANCONIA >> North Penn cut through the wind and the cold on Tuesday, pulling away to a convincing 124-26 victory over rival Souderton in a Suburban One League Colonial Division meet.

The Knights dashed to victories in all three relays and were just as impressive on the track as they were tackling the field, as the defending champs tightened their grip on the division.

Gusty winds awaited runners around the turns on Tuesday.

“I think I handled it pretty well. The back stretch was the toughest. And those were the parts where you had to push the hardest,” said Sophia Schell, part of a tremendous distance group for the Knights. “But other than that it was fine.

“I wanted to get out first and get away from people.”

Schell pulled away to a victory in the 800 and teammate Kira Logiovine took care of the 16 and 32.

“You just gotta keep doing it,” Schell said smiling, speaking of the conditions.

North Penn displayed terrific balance as both squads got ready for weekend invites: North Penn heads to Abington Friday night and the Jack Armstrong Invitational and Souderton will be at the CB West Relays on Saturday.

Taylor Forbes continued her outstanding season for the Knights, winning both hurdles events and triple jumping to a mark of 35-3, also good for first.

Meanwhile Maya Depolo cleared 7-feet-6 to win the pole vault for Big Red. Ava Conley and Nora Richardson ran well in the two mile for Souderton, pushing to second and third.
