DLN roundup: Downingtown West boys lacrosse edges Bishop Shanahan

The Downingtown West boys’ lacrosse team defeated Bishop Shanahan 14-13 on Tuesday night. The Whippets were led by Carter Grear (three goals, two assists) and Owen Lundmark (three goals, two assists). Bram Monroe (two goals). Bret Bergey (one goal), Eddie Moore (one goal), Dylan Cicero (one goal, one assist), Thomas Venzie (two goals) and Ryan Merrick (one goal) rounded out the Whippets’ scoring. The Eagles were led by Nate Bracken (three goals), Joe Devine (three goals, one assist, three ground balls), Colin Gaffney (one goal, two assists), Ben Rodner-Tims (two goals, 11 ground balls) and Devin Mullen (one goal, one assist, four ground balls).
Conestoga 17, Haverford High 5 >> The Pioneers (7-1 overall, 3-0 Central League) were led by Brody Eaton (three goals, one assist), Wade Beckstrom (five goals, one assist), Clif Hawkins (two goals, two assists), Drew Mershel (five goals), Bode Miller (two goals), Miles Warkentine (two assists) and Mikey Johnson (eight saves).
Kennett 14, West Chester Henderson 3 >> The Blue Demons were led by Zach Hulme (seven goals, two assists), Colin Jung (five goals, two assists) and Bo Freebery (five assists, including his 100th career point. Carmen Cortese scored two goals for the Warriors.
Coatesville 13, Oxford 0 >> The Red Raiders were led by Owen Ellis (two goals, two assists), Derek Cooper (four goals, three assists), Magnus Clouser (two goals, one assist), Bryce Kerrigan (two goals), Mike Kennel (four assists) and Dax Shallis (11 saves).
West Chester Rustin 17, Great Valley 2 >> The Golden Knights were led by Marek Seaman (five goals, six assists), Nate Pechin (four goals, one assist), Jake Jackson (one goal, three assists), Antonio Santangelo (two goals, one assist), Jack O’Hora (three goals), Mack Thompson (won seven of nine faceoffs) and Billy Carney (seven saves, one assist).

Girls’ lacrosse
Oxford 11, Coatesville 10 >> The Hornets were led by senior Ava Soucek (five goals), junior Alexis Reinard (two goals, five assists, four draw controls), senior Olivia Voss (two goals, two assists), freshman Kylie Quin (two goals, four draw controls) and junior goalie Paige Boone (eight saves).
Conestoga 18, Haverford High 7 >> The Pioneers (7-1) were led by Ellie Wisch (four goals, three draw controls), Kate Galica (four goals, one assist), Keating Hopkins (four goals, two assists), Eva Stagnaro (two goals), Chloe Brown (two goals, four draw controls) and Paige Lee (eight saves).
Downingtown East 16, West Chester East 8 >> The Cougars, who led 11-0 at halftime, got hat tricks from Eileen Hewitt, Cameron yard and Lexie Conte. Also for D-East, Riley Marks dished out five assists, Hewitt and Finley Mulhern each collected four ground balls, Conte won four draw controls and Addy Mulhern recorded seven saves. For the Vikings, Audrey Argonish scored four goals and won four draw controls and Molly Smeins had a hat trick.
Bishop Shanahan 9, Downingtown West 8 >> The Eagles got two goals each from Silvia Baptista, Elise Pezone and Stella Dambro. Pezone also dished out three assists. Sam D’Addezio won five draw controls and Allie Hathaway recorded 10 saves.

Baseball
Westtown School 5, Shipley 4 >> The Moose (3-4) won its Friends Schools League opener, and leading the offense was Liam Sayer (2-for-4 with game-tying RBI double), Jackson Young (2-for-3 with one run scored), and Luke Holgate (triple, one run scored). Starting pitcher Jack Ingino allowed only two hits in six innings, striking out 12.

Softball
Oxford 6, Elkton (Md.) 5 >> The Hornets were led by catcher Ashley Flynn (2-for-2, three runs scored, two triples). Third baseman Molly Friel also had two hits for Oxford, shortstop McKenna Frank had two RBIs and winning pitcher Cece Figueroa scored two runs.
Downingtown West, Owen J Roberts 6 >> The Whippets were led by Emma Ahlborn (3-for-3, five runs scored), Lizzie Kern (3-for-5, three runs scored), Jaylyn McIntire (3-for-3, five RBIs, home run) and Darby Weller (two doubles, four RBIs).
