DLN local roundup: Downingtown East boys basketball team downs Academy Park

The Downingtown East High School boys basketball team defeated Academy Park, 69-56, Wednesday. Connor Shanahan led the Cougars with 21 points, including 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Micah Hill chipped in with 17 points for D-East (13 of them in the first half) and teammate Ishaan Jha scored 15 points, all of them in the second half. Downingtown East held Academy Park to just four points in the first quarter, taking a 12-4 lead.

West Chester East 58, Penn Wood 47 >> The victorious Vikings relied on balanced scoring, getting 15 points from KJ Cochran (including 4-for-4 from the free throw line), 13 points from Jack Kushner, 10 points from Ryan Price and nine points from Jose Ramos.

Girls’ basketball
Unionville 70, Penn Wood 13 >> A dozen Longhorns entered the scoring column in this Ridley Holiday Tournament contest. Riley Angstadt scored 12 points (10 in the first quarter), and both Elle Johnson and Milana Amoss tallied 11 points for Unionville. The Longhorns led 25-0 at the end of the first quarter, and led 46-2 at halftime.
