WEST GOSHEN >> Putting together a new line can go one of two ways. Either it can mess with the chemidtry of a club or propel it to new heights.
West Chester East hockey coach Eric Wolf tried out a line consisting of Trey Jeffries, Joey Cardarelli and Michael Tordone Monday night against West Chester Henderson and the three clicked like a supergroup.
They combined for 11 points as the Vikings (3-2) rolled past neighborhood rival Warriors, 8-3, at Ice Line. Jeffries led the way with two goals and three assists, Cardarelli had three goals and an assist, while Tordone notched a pair of helpers.
“We did some juggling,” said Wolf, who was not behind the bench due to serving a suspension. “Tonight was their first game together. Joey and Trey are just skilled. Mikey is a meat and potatoes kind of a guy. He’s going to battle below the goalline, he going to dive in front of those shots. That’s just his nature. They each give you a little bit of something different.”

Henderson received a break early as Anthony Logiurato was given a five-minute major and a game miscounduct for boarding. However, they were outscored, 1-0, on the man advantage. Jeffries scored on a breakway, slipping the puck past goalie Alex Denny on the backhand to put East up, 1-0, with 12:18 left in the first.
“That could’ve made it a different game,” said Wolf. “It was tough call early and the way we killed that, it was almost worth a goal in momentum for us to get that out of the way early. We kind of snowballed the other way lately, so it was good to get that out of the way.”
For Henderson coach Dave Hendricks, the lack of a result on the power play goes deeper than just execution on the ice.
“The tough thing is the economics and the timing of this sport is almost criminal the way we cheat these kids,” he said. “To try and get everybody at the rink for practice to run a power play and all that, we’re not all based out of this rink, we have guys from all over the place, so our power play will struggle at times.”

Almost six minutes minutes later, a wide-open Cardarelli tapped in a pass from Nolan Schemmer to make it 2-0. Chase Khounsacknartah scored his first of two goals on the night to make it 3-0 East.
“It was a good night, a lot of help from my linemate Trey Jeffries,” said Cardarelli. “He found me in the slot a couple of times and I got a few pucks in.”
Blake Platz got Henderson on the board early in the second, ramming home a pass from Miles Donnelly in the high slot.
The Vikings restored the three-goal cushion as Khounsacknarath snapped in a pass from Luke Wilson. Cardarelli got his second goal of the night with five minutes left. Jeffries made it 6-1 a couple of minutes later off a setup from Schemmer.
“I thought we played very well and worked hard,” Jeffries said. “We finished the chances we had.
“We played together in club and we’re friends,” he said on Tordone and Cardarelli. “We just play well together.”
Jaeger Daniels and Platz scored for the Warriors in the third, while both Cardarelli, who polished off his hat trick, and Teegan Stutzman had third-period tallies for East.

“They have a lot of horses in that barn, so it’s kind of hard to match up,” said Hendricks. “We are a very young team that is really starting to do some nice things. I’m really happy with Blake Platz and I’m happy with the addition of Jaeger Daniels. We’ll get better and I’m proud of the effort.”
Cam Chandler made 19 stops for East, but a couple were key stops that kept Henderson off the board.
“Cam did a great job. We had all the confidence in the world in him,” said Wolf. “He let us get our bearings after the five-minute power play.”
