Wissahickon 3, North Penn 1: Riley Ball scored with 3:36 before the half and Wissahickon went on to post the impressive SOL crossover win over North Penn (6-6). Ball’s goal off a feed from Caroline Fitzpatrick put the Trojans up 2-1 at the half. The only scoring in the second half was a Kendall Crowley goal off a feed from Ball. Wiss opened the scoring with Sophia Havrilla off an assist from Ella Hummel but North Penn’s Laura Albert tied the game up at 1 off a feed from Catherine McGeehan. Kiera Holt and Kiley Moister combined for 10 saves in net for North Penn, while Ava Feil made eight saves in net for Wiss.
“Wissahickon has a strong squad and they were fast and dynamic today,” NP Head Coach Shannon McCracken said. “The Knights played tough against them but were unable to capitalize on offensive opportunities. Hats off to their defense who came up with some big stops on a few breakaways for North Penn.”
Archbishop Carroll 2, Merion Mercy 1 OT: The Patriots won a thriller in OT when Sienna Golden put home the gamewinner with 4:50 remaining in overtime. Kerry McCormick forced the extra session for Merion with a corner goal at the 8:03 mark of the fourth quarter which tied the game at 1 in regulation. Bridget Grazel scored for Carroll in the opening quarter. Goalie Molly Mangano for Merion Mercy was outstanding with 15 saves. Ari Hall was aided with a super defensive effort and had to make just three saves for the Patriots (9-4, 5-0).
Methacton 7, Upper Merion 4: The Warriors raced out to a 6-0 halftime advantage and held on for the PAC Liberty win on Friday. Scoring for the Warriors were Renee Blake (2), Carmelo Maro, Elene Weychert, Lea DeWan, Lily DeWan and Maddy Baker. Nicole Uebele chipped i with four assists. Reese Doan scored two goals for the Vikings, while Rylie McGrath and Chloe Wardlaw also scored goals. McGrath and Ashley Evitts were credited with assists.
Pope John Paul II 2, Boyertown 2: Cate Mink scored two goals as the Golden Panthers picked up the PAC tie on Friday. Gi Manza came through with 23 saves in net for PJP.
Girls soccer
PW 1, Upper Moreland 1: Abby Boegner scored in the 75th minutes off a Kate Yocum dish and the Colonials rallied for the tie in SOL crossover action on Friday. Willow Taylor scored off an assist from Maggie Brophy to give Upper Moreland the lead at thre 28:31 mark of the first half.
“It is always a competitive game when we play PW,” Upper Moreland Head Coach Lisa Benvenuto said. “Both teams show up with fire and both teams play hard and gritty. Today was no different. It was a really exciting game.”
Phoenixville 4, Pope John Paul II 0: PJP junior Kyanni Escudero made eight saves in net during the PAC Frontier loss on Friday.
Hatboro-Horsham 4, Cheltenham 1: Emma Levin scored two goals as the Hatters picked up the SOL crossover win on Friday. Caitlyn Carpenter and Lily Harvey also scored for Hatboro-Horsham.
Pennridge 1, Bensalem 0: Liv Grenda scored as the Rams escaped with the win on Friday in overtime.
Boys soccer
Phoenixville 7, Pope John Paul II 1: Ben Rubinich scored but the Golden Panthers dropped the PAC Frontier contest on Friday. Jason Krum added 10 saves in net for PJP II.
Methacton 6, Norristown 3: Aryaman Punshi and Cory Kleger each scored two goals as the Warriors rolled to the PAC Liberty win on Friday. Tony Paone and Dishwan Shakes also scored for Methacton. Methacton assists went to Zach Willen, Brayden Ahlum, Aryaman Punshi and Paone. Methacton’s Wyatt Stemler made five saves in net.
Pennridge 2 Bensalem 1, 2OT: Jared Hess and Shane Velez score as the Rams rally for the win in double overtime on Friday.
Girls volleyball
Methacton 3, Norristown 0: The Warriors (11-3, 7-3) swept to the PAC Liberty win on Friday. The Warriors were led by Jacque Rizzuto with seven kills and five aces, while Emma Shaffer had four kills and five aces. Sam Kiernan set the offense with 17 assists and two kills.
North Penn 3, Souderton 2: The Knights came from 2-0 sets down to win a thriller by scores of 19-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17 and 15-8 in SOL Continental action on Friday. Teya McConaha led the way for Souderton with 12 kills, three aces and six digs, while McKenna Murawski added 11 kills, three aces and 14 digs.
