DLN local roundup (Sept. 27): Unionvile girls volleyball team remains undefeated

The Unionville High School girls’ volleyball team improved its record to 11-0 with a 3-0 win against Oxford Tuesday, posting scores of 25-13, 25-13, and 25-12. The Longhorns were led by Olivia Harper (23 assists), Delaney McCoy (15 assists), Brianna Miller (11 kills), Maddy Lowe (9 kills), Vivian Geiger (4 kills, 4 blocks) and Ava Van Deusen (4 aces).
Sun Valley 3, Downingtown West 2 >> The host Whippets lost by scores of 23-25, 15-15, 21-25, 25-18, 8-15. West was led by Camryn Tuffner (15 kills, 15 digs), Darby Weller (13 kills, 20 digs, 2 aces), Emma Helveston (8 kills), Fallon Mitchell (6 kills), Melanie Bowman (30 assists, 12 digs) and Bella Terra (12 digs).
West Chester Rustin 3, Great Valley 1 >> The Golden Knights prevailed by scores of 26-24, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-22. Rustin was led by junior Jane Nelson (27 kills, 17 digs) and senior Kylie Root (30 assists).

Field hockey
Bishop Shanahan 3, Coatesville 0 >> The Eagles (6-2-1) got goals from Sam D’Addezio, Olivia Civiera amd Katie Thomas. Goalie Mia Digenova recorded the shutout, and Karmen Deangelis and Molly Coghan were standouts on defense.
Kennett 5, West Chester Henderson 0 >> The Blue Demons (8-3 overall, 3-2 league) got goals from Megan Ward, Sarah Fritz, Mary Carroll, Jordyn MacMillan and CJ Herring. MacMillan dished out two assists. Goalie Cam Gruce recorded six saves.

Boys’ soccer
West Chester Rustin 3, Great Valley 0 >> For the visiting Golden Knights (6-2 overall, 5-1 Ches-Mont), goals from Danny McGonagle and Danny Scoffone (with a JJ Jackson assist) led the way for the first half. Jake Truitt scored in the second half to ice the game. Seth Turner had eight saves for Great Valley while Evan Chappell kept a clean sheet with three saves.

Girls’ soccer
Villa Maria Academy 4, Villa Joseph Marie 0 >> The Hurricanes improved to 9-1 overall (4-1 in the AACA) with the victory. Goals were scored by Kaelyn Wolfe, Olivia Caruso, Kate Kemmerley and Quinn Hechler, with assists from Wolfe and Kemmerley. Villa Maria was led defensively led by defender Margaret Flick, defensive midfielder Caroline Capaldi and goalie Maddie Catania.
Unionville 1, Oxford 0 >> Kara Diori broke the deadlock with a goal at 7:45 seconds into the first overtime. For the Hornets (2-8, 1-4), goalie Kaelyn Phouthavongsa was recorded for more than two dozen saves.
