Mercury Softball Roundup (May 2): Phoenixville’s Ashlie tosses no-no; Spring-Ford’s Scogna, Boyertown’s Hurter hurl gems
Phoenixville 2, Upper Perkiomen 1
Highlights: Phoenixville’s Aryana Ashlie dazzled with a no-hitter where she struck out 14 and walked only one to shut down PAC Frontier-leading Upper Perk.
Ashlie drove in a run while Gabriella Capelli and Riley Daher had two hits each for the Phantoms.
Madalyn Dyer had a strong start despite the loss, going six innings and allowing zero earned runs on six hits with six Ks.
Spring-Ford 5, Norristown 0
Highlights: Jules Scogna’s pitching dominance led unbeaten Spring-Ford to a shutout of Norristown Monday. Scogna threw a one-hit complete-game shutout, striking out 11 and walking only one Eagle. She also drove in a run at the plate.
Caitlin Ashley and Riley Gancasz also drove in runs for S-F (14-0).
Boyertown 2, Methacton 0
Highlights: Boyertown’s Ella Hurter had a second straight brilliant outing and came out on the winning end this time with a one-hit shutout of Methacton Monday. Hurter struck out 10 and had the Bears’ lone RBI. She threw six no-hit innings against unbeaten Spring-Ford last week but fell in walk-off fashion.
Alyx Morgan was 3-for-3 for the Bears.
Owen J. Roberts 13, Perkiomen Valley 5
Highlights: Natalie Alldred blasted two home runs in a 3-for-5, four-RBI day and got the pitching win in OJR’s convincing win over Perk Valley.
Sophia Cerimele also homered while Emma Feltenberger, Sophia Winnick and Logan Egan had multi-hit games for 15-hit OJR.
Pottsgrove 12, Pottstown 4
Highlights: Bailey Pysher had two hits, a double, and two RBI to lead Pottsgrove, which put up four-spots in the first, fourth and sixth innings.
Also for the Falcons, Emily Dougherty had a triple and two RBI and Jasmine Bowman was 2-for-2.
Upper Merion 7, Pope John Paul II 2
Highlights: JoEllen Johnson had three hits, Ava DiDonato held PJP to two runs on six hits in a complete game effort for Upper Merion.
