The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Local Roundup (May 2): Souderton’s McCausland fires no-hitter

Souderton 4, Bensalem 0 >> After missing out on a no-hitter with two outs in the bottom of the 7th in his last outing against Neshaminy, Will McCausland tossed a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts as the Indians picked up the SOL crossover win on Monday over Bensalem. Justin DiCesare and Hunter Weitzel each doubled for Souderton, while Luke Pollock delivered two RBIs.

Pennridge 2, Council Rock North 1 >> Conor Flynn pitched an 8-inning gem as the Rams (6-6, 4-6 SOL Colonial) picked up the SOL crossover win on Monday. Flynn scattered five hits and one unearned run over eight innings, while singling and driving in a run. Ryan DeHaven added two hits for Pennridge.

Pope John Paul II 14, Upper Merion 0 >> The Golden Panthers (6-6) erupted for 10 runs in the second inning and coasted to the PAC win on Monday. Mike Greco doubled twice and scored two runs to pace the offense, which totaled 15 hits in four innings of work.

Methacton 4, Boyertown 3 >> Kross Howarth’s third-inning solo homer proved to the be the difference in this one on Monday. Ty Lohsen allowed just three runs on four hits over 6.1 innings with Howarth picking up the save. Tommy Kratz added a two-run double for the Warriors (9-3, 6-3).

North Penn 3, Truman 1 >> Dylan Brown used his arm and bat to help North Penn pick up an SOL crossover win, the Old Dominion commit striking out 11 in a complete-game effort while also going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Knights (7-6, 5-5 SOL Colonial) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Quinn Marett was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Truman (6-7, 4-6 SOL Patriot) scored a run in the fourth after an error on a James Baker two-out grounder to pull even.

North Penn went back ahead in the fifth as Marett came home on Jake Picozzi’s RBI groundout. Brown provided the Knights some insurance with his RBI single in the sixth.

On the mound, Brown allowed one run – unearned – on three hits and one walk. After Truman tied the game in the fourth, Brown retired nine straight Tigers before giving up a two-out single in the seventh. He proceeded to strike out the next batter to seal the victory.

Abington 6, Upper Moreland 5 >> Upper Moreland rallied from 5-0 down to force extra innings but Alex Dardaris’ two-out, bases-loaded walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth gave Abington its seventh straight win.

Dardaris went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, Luke Sydlowski went 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Anthony Ehly was 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored for the Galloping Ghosts (9-4, 7-4 SOL Liberty).

Bo Meakim was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Golden Bears (3-6, 3-6 SOL Freedom) while Patrick Kilgus went 2-for-3 with two walks and a run scored.

Abington took a 2-0 in the top of the first on RBI singles from Dardaris and Sydlowski then added a run in the third on Matt Worek’s RBI groundout. The Ghost went up 5-0 in the fifth on a Dardaris RBI bunt single and Sydlowski’s RBI single.

Meakim cut the margin to 5-2 in the top of the sixth with his two-RBI double with the Bears tying it by plating three runs in the seventh on a Kaleb Powell two-RBI double and Meakim’s two-out RBI single.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 9, Lower Moreland 2 >> Plymouth Whitemarsh broke a 2-2 tie by scoring four times with two outs in the top of the fourth – the last three on Mike Miller’s home run – and pulled away from there for an SOL crossover.

Miller finished 2-for-2 with five RBIs and a run scored while Luke Caucci was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run for the Colonials (10-4, 7-4 SOL Liberty), who plated a run in the fifth then tacked on two more in the seventh.

Lincoln Sharpe went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored with Luke Gartland going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. PW starting pitcher Ray Tomassetti earned the win, giving up two runs – one earned – on two hits in 6 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out nine.

Aiden Stepansky drove in both runs for Lower Moreland (3-9, 2-8 SOL Freedom) with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the third to tie the game 2-2.

Wissahickon 13, Springfield-Montco 3 >> Justin Miller was a home run short of the cycle, Nate DeVincent drove in four runs and Wissahickon blew the game open with a seven-run top of the fifth and rolled to an SOL crossover win.

Miller was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, an RBI and scored four runs while DeVincent went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored for the Trojans (7-7, 7-4 SOL Liberty), who snapped a two-game skid.

Luke Frank and Shane Henrick both had a double and two RBIs for Wiss with Blake McClintic scoring twice.

Will Conlin went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Springfield (1-9, 1-7 SOL Freedom). Brett Smith was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Ryan Stewart went 2-for-4.

With Wiss up 5-1 after four innings, DeVincent brought in the top of the fifth’s first run with an RBI double then scored on Henrick’s RBI groundout. A Frank two-RBI double made it 9-1 with another run scoring after an error on a McClintic grounder.

Miller hit an RBI double then came home for a 12-1 Trojans lead after an error on Kasey Weiss’ grounder.

Archbishop Wood 4, Devon Prep 2 >> Aiden Myers had a hand in all four Archbishop Wood runs as the Vikings erased an early 2-0 deficit by scoring three times in the bottom of the fourth then added another in the sixth to claim a PCL victory.

Myers went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Vikings (10-2, 7-1 league) while Patrick McKinney was 2-for-3. Connor Wood earned the win pitching four scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out three.

Myers tied the game in the top of the fourth with his two-RBI triple then scored on an error for a 3-2 Wood lead. In the sixth, Myers led off the inning with a double then came home from third on a two-out balk.

Josh Freiling was 3-for-4 with a double for Devon Prep (3-4 PCL), which took a 2-0 lead with a run in both the second and third.

Archbishop Carroll 10, La Salle 0 (5) >> Roman Tozzi struck out nine in pitching a five-inning one-hit shutout while also going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored as Archbishop Carroll rolled past La Salle to stay perfect in the PCL.

Sam Benvignati went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored for Carroll (8-0 league), who took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Patriots scored twice in the second then finished the contest with three in the fifth – Tozzi hitting a walk-off, two-RBI single.

James Brown had a double, two RBIs and two run scored while Dom Venini scored twice for Carroll.

Jephson Hadson-Taylor collected the lone hit for La Salle (8-6, 6-3) with a leadoff single in the third.

Boys lacrosse
Souderton 21, PW 9 >> Jamison McDivitt and Ty Quintois combined for 10 goals as the Indians rolled to the SOL crossover win on Monday. John Martin-Vince and Tyson Bui added four goals, while Seth Grossman, Sean Landis and Tanner Weaver also tallied scores for Souderton (9-2), which also got two assists from Grossman, McDivitt, Martin-Vince and Gavin Landis.

PJP II 6, WC Henderson 3 >> Pope John Paul II fought out of a 2-1 halftime deficit and outscored the Warriors of West Chester Henderson 5-1 in the second half to pick up a 6-3 nonleague victory on Senior Day at home on Monday. The Panthers were led by a great defensive effort from freshmen Denny Owens and Joey Moffa as well as senior Ethan O’Pake and junior Hugh Trexler as well as stellar goalie play from goalie Sean Fallon (12 saves). Cole Miller, Eric Zadroga and Ian Young each scored two goals to pace the offense for PJP II (7-6).

Methacton 10, Pennridge 6 >> The Rams fell behind 6-1 at the half and dropped the nonconference tilt on Monday. Frankie Fanelli and Ryan Carichkoff both had two goals and one assist. Also scoring for Pennridge were Matt Seiler and Levi Souder, while Kieran Banks made 11 saves in net.

Souderton 10, CR North 6 >> Jamison McDvitt scored four goals and added two assists as the Indians picked up the nonconference win on Saturday. John Martin-Vince added three goals and one assist, while Tyson Bui scored two goals and one assist for Souderton. Sean Landis also scored for the Indians, while Matt Malanga made 10 saves in net.

Girls Lacrosse
Plymouth Whitemarsh 9, Abington 7 >> The Colonials (7-5) pitched a shutout in the second half and picked up the SOL American win on Monday over the Ghosts (5-8). All four low defenders Lonna Buono, Ella Clark, Kaylin Smith and Katie Lukens came up with caused turnovers and ground balls. Rhianna Gooneratne was big on the draw, while Ella Clark led the team defensively with three DC, three positive turnovers and four ground balls. Aniya Bond had a solid second half with four saves. Brianna Austin paced the offense with four goals, while Sophia Gartland added two goals for PW. Mei Mei Cheng led Abington with three goals.

North Penn 16, Central Bucks East 6 >> After a slow start, the Knights erupted for 10 second-half goals and coasted to the SOL National win on Monday. Kerry O’Donnell paced the offense with four goals, while Riley O’Donnell and Danielle Preston each added three goals. Adding two goals were Jordan Baily and Kayla Stressman, while Emily Varilla and Olivia Caputo also tallied scores. Kiera Holt was solid in net with seven saves for North Penn (10-3 6-0).

Upper Dublin 15, Cheltenham 3 >> The Flying Cardinals raced out to an 11-1 lead at the half and coasted to the SOL American win on Monday. Paige Dinkel, Tess Reardon, Aditi Foster ande Anna DiMartile all scored two goals for Upper Dublin (8-3, 5-2). Julie Zlotnikoff, Cami Rosenthal, Jaida Dawoud, Allie Gay, Kelly Senior, Ella Lyon and Katie Sloughton also tallied goals for the Cards.

Lansdale Catholic 16, Nazareth Academy 11 >> Emily Simpson scored seven goals and dished out one assist as the Crusaders picked up the nonconference win on Monday. Ava Mercier, Kate Frederickson and Sam Beyerle added two goals for LC, which also got goals from Holly Wunder, Grace Marchese and Keira Trainer. Shea Maxwell provided nine goals in net for LC.

Archbishop Carroll 25, Conwell-Egan 1 >> The Patriots improved to 6-0 in the PCL with the win on Monday, improving to 14-0 overall. Twenty-five different players scored for Carroll. Machaela Henry had five DCs and Sarah Durham, Kate O’Neill and Kiley Mottice had two assists each. Bridget Robinson, Mei Radar and McKayla Elison combined to stop five shots on goal.

Upper Merion 18, Pottsgrove 9 >> The Vikings (7-6) had seven different goal scorers and picked up the PAC win on Monday. Scoring four goals were Sam Walmsley, Olivia Smith and Ashley Evitts. Julianna Callison added three goals, while Melissa McCabe, Brooke Olsen and Audrey Schuebel each tallied goals. Morgan Puglisi added six saves in net for Upper Merion.

Spring-Ford 25, Norristown 3 >> Ayanna Lions scored three goals but the Eagles dropped the PAC contest on Monday. Alexis Sowers scored three goals to pace Spring-Ford.

Softball
Dock Mennonite 12, Faith Christian 7 >> Trinity Landis had two hits and scored four runs to pace the offense for the Pioneers (7-5) on Monday. Aubrey Gahman added three hits with two RBIs and Melissa Moyer had two hits, including a double and three RBI’s. Maggie Dowell threw a complete game with 12 strikeouts and just one walk.

Boys volleyball
Souderton 3, Council Rock North 2 >> Nate Brown had 32 kills to go along with six digs, four aces and two blocks as the Indians (8-7) won a thriller on Monday night by scores of 25-21, 21-25, 24-26, 25-18 and 15-12. Middies Tobie Lias and Justin Doppler added four kills and two kills respectively, while Alec Kreiser led the defensive effort with 10 digs. JC Peacock added seven kills while Jake Halteman had four kills. Ethan Frattarelli contributed five digs and some crucial aces, while Kavailya Bhatt had 40 assists.
