A pair of freshman became front runners on the course this past fall, as Hatboro-Horsham’s Lillian DiCola and Pennridge’s Ashley Landis had remarkable seasons for their respective squads.

Both earned spots on this year’s Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media All-Area Team.

DiCola raced to a Suburban One League American Conference Title, a third-place finish in District 1-3A, and a 14th-place finish in the state for the Hatters.

Landis also had quite a postseason for the Rams.

Landis was 45th in the state and the 10th District One finisher in the race. She handled the tough Hershey course in 20 minutes, 2.1 seconds.

Another runner with a heavy dose of postseason success was Ella Woehlcke of Mount Saint Joseph.

Woehlcke, just a sophomore, pushed herself to a fourth-place finish in District 1-3A, kicking to an impressive time of 18:40.50 at Lehigh University.

Emily Simko of Hatboro-Horsham charged to a fifth-place finish at districts and earned a state medal, placing 16th in the field of 238 runners in Class 3A.

Simko and DiCola provided a wonderful one-two punch for the Hatters all season and both return next year.

Mary McGrory and Woehlcke did just that for Mount this year, giving the Magic two tremendous runners up front.

Makala Hansen of William Tennent was tops in the Suburban One League American Conference Freedom Division.

Gianna Cagliola of Pope John Paul II was sensational at Lehigh, racing to the District 1-2A Title in 19 minutes, 16.10 seconds.

Cagliola set such a demanding pace that she won the race by over 35 seconds.

Kate Edenson had another fine season for Central Bucks West. Kev Hunter, MediaNews.

Kate Edenson of Central Bucks West, who helped power the Bucks to a state title in the spring distinguished herself again this fall with a trip to districts and states while Lansdale Catholic’s Isabella Greco raced to a District 12-2A Gold Medal.
