It is a dream of most high school athletes to win a district championship. Well, Bishop Shanahan senior Zane Domsohn won two District 1 titles in seven days as a star forward on the boys soccer team and a kicker for the 4A championship football team. Domsohn also has a chance to win a state championship in football if the Eagles can go to Hershey.

Domsohn is the center piece of the soccer team and is the main focus of most opponents. But, when some of the football coaches spoke to Domsohn’s mom, Trish, at a basketball tournament this summer and told her that the football team needed a kicker, Domsohn’s football career was born.

“I had not thought about football, but my mom said the coaches told her they needed a kicker so I talked to coach (Paul) Meyers and he said to come and try out for the team,” Domsohn said. I have always played a lot of sports since I was a little kid because I love playing sports, so I was excited to be on the football team.

“It has been an incredible feeling to win two district championships. I always wanted one in soccer, but to get two in a week is a special feeling. After the semifinal football win over Chichester, coach Meyers told the team on the field that we have a guy that can win two district championships and the guys all rallied around me and kidded me on it. I really felt a part of the football team that week.”

Being a star soccer player plus a starting point guard on the basketball team in the winter, he was an All-Ches-Mont League choice last year for basketball. Playing multiple sports has put Domsohn in a lot of pressure conditions, which helps him when he comes in for a critical field goal. Domsohn is used to being in the spotlight and the other sports experiences have definitely helped him in his kicking duties.

“I practice with the soccer team, but I go over to the football field a couple of times a week,” Domsohn said. “And people think if you can play soccer you can kick a football, but it is a really different technique and situation. Being in pressure situations in multiple sports really helps me on the football field.”

Domsohn will play soccer in college, although the striker has not made his choice yet. For now, the soccer, football and basketball player will give his all for all three teams and hopes to add to his personal medal chest as a true three-sport athlete that just loves the competition and the camaraderie of being on a team with others that are all striving to be the best they can and bring home glory for their school.

It is what high school sports should be about and Domsohn is a shining example of a true student athlete that is living a young person’s dream every day. In three sports.
