PIAA-2A Championships: Big day for St. Basil, Bishop McDevitt girls; Dock Mennonite and Jenkintown boys
The St. Basil Academy girls produced a third-place finish in the state while Bishop McDevitt’s Taleea Buxton, Dock Mennonite’s Stanley Saint-Fleur and Jenkintown’s Luke Miller all won gold medals, highlighting local action at the PIAA-2A Championships at Shippensburg University.
Saint-Fleur crossed the finish line in the 400-meter dash in 48.63 seconds, his nearest competitor Trevor Paschall of North Catholic (48.69).
At the other end of the spectrum, Miller stood out in the distance events, leading the way in the 3,200 with a winning time of 9:18.91. Chris Hine of Holy Redeemer was second in 9:21.05.
Southern Columbia won the team title in the boys with 62 points, followed by runner-up Scranton Prep with 26.
Dock and Jenkintown were the top local squads, finishing in a seven-way tie for 20th with 10 points.
Also, Lansdale Catholic’s Anthony Gargani medaled in the 3,200, finishing sixth in 9:31.85.
Bishop McDevitt’s Kendall White raced to fifth in the 400, crossing in 50.66.
It was quite an afternoon for Basil in the 2A girls.
Sasha Lee of St. Basil was third in the 100 hurdles in 14.94. Lee also notched sixth in the triple jump, with a leap of 36-4.75, and she was the silver medalist in the long jump, with a mark of 17-6.75.
Basil was also fourth in the 4×400 relay (Kelly, Bernadette Stanton, Morgan Fuller, Paige Tavares), with a time of 4:04.76, and eighth in the 4×1 (Buxton, Ashley Richardson, Paris Talley, Syniah White) in 51.02.
Buxton of Bishop McDevitt won the 100 hurdles in 14.73, outracing St. Joseph’s Clare Marshall (14.86) for the top spot.
Buxton also leaped to fourth in the triple jump, with a mark of 36-9.25.
Schuylkill Valley and North Schuylkill were Co-Champs in the girls, each finishing with 39 points.
