Delco High School Roundup (April 14): Davis delivers, Penncrest completes comeback over Marple
Kellen Davis delivered the go-ahead two-run single in the top of the seventh inning as Penncrest rallied for a 9-6 Central League baseball win over Marple Newtown.
The Lions plated five runs in their final at-bats.
Christian Reed went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the winning effort. Davis and Quentin Perili each had two hits. Corey Anderson pitched 2.1 innings of relief with two strikeouts for the win.
Jason Anderson went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Tigers.
Elsewhere in the Central League:
Strath Haven 3, Springfield 2 >> The visiting Panthers scored two runs thanks to a dropped fly ball in the sixth inning, in achieving their seventh straight win to start the season.
Panthers ace Koll Peichel pitched six innings with 11 strikeouts to earn the win. Michael Valente went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Christian Thack ripped a double for Haven.
Danny Ryan pitched six solid frames for the Cougars, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with four punchouts. Jake Carlin went 2-for-3 with a double and Zach Tropiano singled, walked and drove in a run.
Ridley 7, Lower Merion 5 >> Gavin Severa’s clutch single in the bottom of the sixth brought home the tying and go-ahead runs. Braden Dean’s sac fly tied the game in the fifth.
Severa finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored for the Green Raiders. Jeremy Stranix scored four runs, singled twice and worked a walk from the leadoff spot. Frank Gallo socked a pair of doubles.
Radnor 15, Harriton 0 >> Austin Marx allowed no hits over three innings and earned his first varsity win.
Jack Pachella crushed a two-run homer and Scott Belveal smacked a three-run triple for Radnor (3-4, 2-3). Will Reger, Danny Rosenblum, Mike Sears and Marx all added a pair of base knocks.
Upper Darby 12, Haverford 0 >> Chris Zupito gave up only two hits and struck out four in a five-inning shutout. Jake Amatucci paced the Royals offense with a double and four RBIs.
In the Bicentennial League:
Delco Christian 12, Plumstead Christian 0 >> Rob Lucas fired a two-hit shutout and struck out seven.
Cole Levis, Rob Lucas, Jordan Mitchell, and Stephen Wisnewski all scored two runs for the Knights, who capitalized on six Plumstead errors. Lucas, Wisnewski and Josh Freiling each stroked a double.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Sun Valley 8, Kennett 4 >> Cole Porter struck out seven in 4.2 innings and went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a pair of walks in leading the Vanguards to their first victory.
Josh Lillis finished 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Madison also banged out a two-base knock.
In nonleague action:
Episcopal Academy 7, Westtown 3 >> Brad Johnson was 4-for-4 with a home run and Tyler Beaulieu contributed a pair of hits and two RBIs for the Churchmen. Alec Riley struck out six in four innings of work to earn the win.
Softball
Kelsey Racine dominated from the pitcher’s circle and was 3-for-4 with an RBI in Marple Newtown’s 5-2 Central League victory over Penncrest.
Racine struck out 14 and scattered seven hits in a complete game effort. Lindsay Walsh provided three hits and an RBI for MN. Shauna Kerrigan added two base knocks and a ribbie.
In other Central League action:
Haverford 20, Upper Darby 0 >> Maria Peterson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, five RBIs and three runs scored for the Fords, who produced 15 hits. Camryn Casadei went 3-for-3 with a pair of two-baggers, three RBIs, three runs scored and a walk.
Hannah Hermenson was the winning pitcher.
Ridley 21, Lower Merion 0 >> Mary DelFera and Dakota Marshall collected three hits for the Green Raiders, who scored 17 runs in the second inning. Haley McMenamin went 2-for-2 with a triple, while Madison Chapman and Mollie Reece had two hits.
Springfield 14, Strath Haven 0 >> Sam Ciasullo blanked the Panthers on 17 strikeouts and helped herself with a two-run double.
Ally Heston went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and four runs scored for the Cougars, who pounded 17 hits. Jordan Galloway (three RBIs, two runs) and Cara Utter each had three hits, and Ryleigh Frye was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Garnet Valley 14, Conestoga 4 >> Kate Dugery emptied the bases with a grand slam as the Jaguars crushed the Pioneers.
Elisabeth O’Connor went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Maura Coleman had three knocks and Kayleigh Saboja chipped in with a double and three runs scored.
Winning pitcher Anna Sidlowski registered nine strikeouts and allowed no earned runs.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Kennett 6, Sun Valley 1 >> Brianna Lawson had two hits and drove in the lone run for the Vanguards. She recorded seven strikeouts from the pitcher’s circle.
