Boys tennis
Pope John Paul II 6, Upper Merion 1 >> The Golden Panthers scored straight-set victories in five matches — along with a sweep of the singles bracket — as they rolled over the Vikings in Tuesday’s Pioneer Athletic Conference contest.
J.T. Collins had PJP’s best individual showing, a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Somil Tare at second singles, while A.J. Mares added a 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles. UM’s lone point came from its third-doubles team of Andrew Egan and Aditya Mogul.
Spring-Ford 5, Pottsgrove 2 >> Josh Pergine and Navein Suresh headed the Rams’ lineup Tuesday, turning in the best individual effort in their Pioneer Athletic Conference victory over the Falcons.
Pergine and Suresh dropped just one game in their 6-1, 6-0 win over Luke Kaiser and Shane Gleason. Another SF doubles duo, Dan Thorpe and Ethan Shakour in the second slot, were extended to a tiebreaker by Rhys Yochem and James Thompon before coming out on top, 6-6 (7-2), 6-4.
Pottsgrove’s points came from Wyatt Lear at third singles — a three set victory over Colton Pollock — and its fourth-doubles pair of Liam Brogley and Kevin Michuki.
Boyertown 6, Upper Perkiomen 1 >> Sweeping the doubles bracket, the Bears rolled over the Indians in Tuesday’s PAC match.
Kyle Stork and Carmen Rosselli gave Boyertown solid showings at first and second singles, respectively, dropping just two games in their straight-set outings. UP’s lone poing came at third singles, where Evan Ratushny rebounded from a first-set loss with 6-2, 6-2 scores against Cameron Gorman.
Phoenixville 7, Upper Perkiomen 0 >> The Phantoms dropped just five games in singles play as they swept the Indians in Monday’s PAC match.
Josh Starczewski at first singles, and the second-doubles team of Brandon Kenbler and Gavin Pererillo swept their pairings by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. UP’s best individual showing came at first doubles, where Kyle Schmoyer and Enoc Padilla won four games.
Perkiomen Valley 7, Pottstown 0 >> The Vikings made a clean sweep of the doubles competition Monday to dispatch the Trojans in PAC play.
PV got 6-0, 6-0 outings from Jeremy Hadler/Henry Ye, Evan Butler/Eli Volcako and Nick Russo/Ricardo Spadea, with its fourth-doubles team Justin Tagert and Alex Hurley getting a forfeit. Pottstown was headed by Xavier Francis-Williams winning three games at third singles.
Wyomissing 3, Daniel Boone 2 >> Winning two of three singles duels enabled the Spartans to edge the Blazers in Tuesday’s Berks League match, dealing the locals their first loss of the season.
Boone’s wins came from Sam Shank at third singles (7-5, 4-6, 10-6 over Sawyer Helgeson) and at first doubles, where Jared Miller and Owen Blume took a tiebreaking 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 match from Wyomissing’s Peter Folga/Jack Gent duo. Boone had won its first four outings prior to the pairing with Wyomissing.
Daniel Boone 3, Reading High 2 >> A sweep of the doubles bracket was key to the Blazers winning Monday’s Berks League match with the Red Knights and remaining perfect on the season.
The Jared Miller/Owen Blume tandem went 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles while Brandan Myers and Dean Marlowe won in a pair of 6-1 sets. Boone (4-0) also got a forfeit at third singles for its margin of victory.
Softball
Daniel Boone 8, Brandywine Heights 2 >> Dani Hayes swung the biggest bat for the Blazers Tuesday, leading them to victory over the Bullets in Berks League action.
Hayes drove in four runs with a homer and double. Amber Williams chipped in with a 3-for-4 bat featuring a double and RBI, and Kristen DiNolfi added a triple and RBI.
Hayes picked up the pitching decision off 6-1/3 innings of five-hit, one-run, four-strikeout mound work. Julia Maggs closed out the game on the hill for Boone.
Baseball
Lansdale Catholic 11, Perkiomen School 6 >> Cesar Lopez was the bright spot for the Panthers as they fell to the Crusaders in non-league play Tuesday.
Lopez had Perkiomen’s big blow, a three-run homer in the sixth inning. He also hit a run-scoring double, accounting for two of his team’s five hits while it fell into a 9-2 hole after three at-bats.
Only true Perk highlight was freshman Cesar Lopez with a run scoring double and a three-run homer.
Boys volleyball
Daniel Boone 3, Schuylkill Valley 1 >> The Blazers rallied from an opening-set loss to run the table the rest of the way in Tuesday’s Berks League victory over the Panthers. Set scores were 17-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-20).
Jack Hummel had 11 kills, two blocks and one ace for Boone (1-1), while Coltan Strable had eight kills and Ian Wright 24 assists. For SV, Zach Heffner had 11 kills, 15 digs and three aces; and Caleb Miller had four kills, five aces and 10 digs.
