Reporter Girls Basketball Roundup: Hughes’ 27 points help Upper Moreland edge Abington
Upper Moreland 45, Abington 45 >> Bean Hughes provided consistent offense throughout Tuesday’s SOL American matchup, scoring a game-high 27 points as Upper Moreland edged Abington for its second straight win.
EmmyFaith Wood hit four 3-pointers in added 14 points for the Golden Bears (9-7, 5-4 conference). Hughes had seven points in the first quarter, six in the second then seven again in both the third and fourth.
Jaida Helm scored eight of her team-high 17 points in the third for Abington (8-8, 6-3), which had a two-game win streak snapped. Khalis Whiting recorded nine of her 13 points in the fourth.
The Ghosts led 20-18 at halftime before Upper Moreland took the third 17-12 to go into the fourth up 35-32.
Central Bucks West 58, Souderton 50 >> Souderton took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter but Central Bucks West outscored the Indians 22-13 in the final period to stay undefeated in the SOL Continental.
Maddie Burke scored 22 points to pace the Bucks (12-3, 8-0 conference), who have won their last six. Olivia Irons added 13 points.
Mikaela Reese led all scorers with a career-high 26 points and also collected six rebounds and four assists for the Indians (10-6, 3-6). Souderton trailed 25-18 at halftime but took the third 19-11 to enter the fourth up 37-36.
Lansdale Catholic 68, Conwell-Egan 41 >> Timaya Lewis-Eutsey went for a game-high 28 points as Lansdale Catholic cruised to a sixth consecutive victory.
Riley DeVitis added 15 points for the Crusaders (14-2, 5-0 PCL Blue).
Germantown Academy 70, SCH Academy 28 >> Jaye Haynes and Maddie Vizza each scored 17 points as Germantown Academy jumped out to a 22-8 lead after a quarter and rolled from there for its sixth win in a row.
Jessica Moore chipped in 12 points for the Patriots (17-3, 6-0 Inter-Ac), who led 45-14 at halftime.
Hatboro-Horsham 60, Wissahickon 37 >> Alice Hall scored led all scorers with 15 points as Hatboro-Horsham pulled away in the second half to end a five-game losing streak
Ava McKinney added nine points while Emily Thomas and Cam Ryan both scored eight points for the Hatters (8-8, 5-4 SOL American, who led 26-22 before outscoring Wissahickon 20-12 in the third then 14-3 in the fourth.
Anna Schools had 12 points to pace the Trojans (5-10, 2-7 SOL American), who led 14-10 after a quarter. The loss was the fifth straight for Wissahickon.
Plymouth Whitemarsh 70, Springfield-Montco 15 >> Kaitlyn Flanagan collected a game-high 18 points while Anna McTamney finished with 16 points as Plymouth Whitemarsh cruised past Springfield to stay unbeaten on the season.
Erin Daley added 12 points for the Colonials (16-0, 9-0 SOL American).
Pennridge 37, Quakertown 28 >> Ashley Gordon finished with eight points to lead Pennridge as the Rams picked up a second straight win in the SOL Continental contest.
Julia Kreider and Katie Yoder both recorded eight points for Pennridge (9-5, 4-2), which went into the fourth up 29-20.
