Short second recruitment leads Trey Blair to Temple
Trey Blair’s recruitment didn’t stay open for very long.
Thursday, the day that the standout quarterback was named the Daily Times football player of the year, Blair decommitted from the University of Buffalo. Friday, the Haverford senior pledged his football future to Temple.
“First I want to thank my family for supporting me through everything,” Blair wrote on his Twitter account. “I would also like to thank all of my coaches, teammates and the community of Havertown for all of the love and support. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity that Coach (Rod) Carey and the rest of the coaching staff has given me to play for a great program close to home.”
Blair was Delco’s leader in rushing yards this season with 2,154 and 27 touchdowns. He added 1,160 passing yards and 13 touchdowns against six interceptions. With Blair at the helm, the Fords won 11 games and advanced to the District 1 Class 6A semifinals, notching the program’s first district playoff victories. He also was the team’s primary punt and kick returner and hauled in two interceptions, setting the Fords’ career program record with 13 picks.
He had been eyed by Buffalo as a defensive back, and his most natural position at the next level might be as a safety who can use his explosiveness in the return game.
