Marple Newtown’s Straub saves best for last
Ryan Straub’s 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter put Marple Newtown up for good, giving the Tigers a 54-53 win over Strath Haven in Central League play Friday night.
Straub scored five of his 10 points in the fourth quarter. Joey Pettinelli had a team-high 13 points for the Tigers (2-1, 1-1 Central).
Ibo Pio led Strath Haven with 23 points. Luke Edwards chipped in 12.

Haverford 41, Conestoga 31 >> John Siedman scored nine of his game-high 15 points in the third quarter as the Fords took control with a 15-6 edge in that frame. Adam Stuck scored 10 points and sealed the game with a late and-1 for the Fords (4-0, 2-0) who followed up their win over Lower Merion with another impressive league conquest. The Haverford defense responded to a deficit after one quarter by allowing just six points in each of the final three stanzas.
Garnet Valley 54, Ridley 34 >> Valantis Apostolopoulos was 3-for-3 from 3-point land for a game-high 15 points, and Carl Schaller added 14 in a short shift for the Jags (2-0, 2-0), who led by 24 at half. Gannon McKee tossed in nine points.
Tahir Mills led Ridley (2-1, 1-1 Central) with six points.
Radnor 32, Penncrest 30 >> Jack D’Entremont’s two free throws with six seconds left gave Radnor its second consecutive league victory. Penncrest missed a look with a second left and had a tip-in that went in ruled after the buzzer.
D’Entremont was the only offensive star with 16 points, including a pair of made 3-pointers, for Radnor (4-0, 2-0).
Marquis Tomlin led Penncrest (3-1, 1-1) with 10 points, five assists and three steals. Denzel Atkinson-Boyer chipped in six points and seven rebounds.
Lower Merion 64, Upper Darby 58 >> CJ Dabbs and Shareef Jones scored 14 points each, and Onyekach Nzeh added 11, but the Royals (3-2, 0-2) had no answer for LM’s Demetrius Lilly, who scored 34 points for the Aces.
In nonleague action:
Chester Charter Scholars Academy 77, Pottsgrove 39 >> Tyler Howard dominated in the post with 13 points and 12 rebounds plus two blocks, and Breon Showell paired 10 points with five steals and three assists as the Sabers (3-1) romped.
Hun School 73, Episcopal Academy 53 >> Colin Chambers (13 points) and Will Delaney (12 points) hit three 3-pointers each, and Jake Jaszcz chipped in 10, but the shorthanded Churchmen fell in the first round of the Peddie Invitational Tournament.
