Abington gallops over Pennsbury for SOL National title

ABINGTON >> In a thrilling game for the Suburban One National Conference championship, the Abington Galloping Ghosts exploded in the third quarter to earn a 49-28 championship victory over Pennsbury.

The game featured 11 combined touchdowns in the slugfest with 10 of those being scored on the ground.

Highlighting the game for Abington (8-1, 6-0 conference) was senior running back Andrick Wesh, who capped the game earning over 1,000 rushing yards in nine games this season.

“I have to say thank you to the offensive line and my coaches because they gave me the opportunity every time and they put their trust in me to run the ball,” said Wesh. “Without the offensive line, I wouldn’t touch a thousand yards.”

Before the opening kickoff, Abington Senior High School celebrated its seniors including Wesh.

“I have a huge support system with my family coming to the games,” said Wesh. “I have to thank them for always supporting me.”

Abington head coach Kevin Conlin was thrilled for his team to finish undefeated in SOL action.

“I am Andrick Wesh’s biggest fan,” said Conlin. “He’s a kid who has worked his hardest his whole life, he played for us for four years and this is the first year he has been our featured back and he has been our absolute cowbell.”

“He’s a great kid, teachers love him, students love him, the team loves him, he’s everything you want a teenage kid to be,” added Conlin. “He’s awesome and I couldn’t be any happier.”

After Abington held a 21-7 lead at halftime, both teams combined for four touchdowns in the first five minutes of the third quarter, including a 65-yard rushing touchdown from Wesh.

Wesh also capped off the third quarter with a 69-yard run for his third touchdown of the game.

Wesh finished the game with 186 rushing yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.

With the loss, Pennsbury (5-4, 4-1) snapped a five-game winning streak dating back to week four.

The Pennsbury football squad will look for a big bounce back next Friday when it hosts Neshaminy for senior night with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Abington Galloping Ghosts will look their ninth straight win to cap off the regular season when they travel to Central Bucks West (8-1) next Friday at 7 p.m.
