Bryant, Academy New Church cruise past New Hope-Solebury

BRYN ATHYN >> Academy of the New Church running back Devin Bryant finished with three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving, to lead ANC to a 43-0 win over New Hope-Solebury on Saturday.

“We’re dominating, we look great right now,” Bryant said. “Once I get the handoff I’m looking to score. My line did a great job blocking today.”

Bryant finished with 151 yards rushing on just four carries, using a pair of long touchdown runs to open the scoring for ANC.

On his team’s first possession, Bryan bounced a run down the right sideline and scored from 69 yards out. On the second drive he managed to do almost the exact same thing, this time finding the end zone from 75 yards away.

“Having him (Bryant) back there takes a ton of pressure off me because they have to worry about him so much,” ANC quarterback Jeb Brenfleck said. “It’s a ton of fun playing with him. He’s so elusive that you never know what is going to happen with him back there.”

Bryant’s third touchdown came about six minutes before half on a shovel pass from Brenfleck.

When New Hope-Solebury committed more to the run following Bryant’s fast start, ANC opened up the offense and let Brenfleck spread the ball around to his wide receivers.

Five different players finished with a catch, led by Glenn Sabb II’s 55 yards and a touchdown on three catches.

Brenfleck threw for 108 yards and three touchdowns while connecting on 8-of-12 passes. Sabb, Bryant and Kai Allen each finished with one score.

“It (The offense) is a lot of fun,” Brenfleck said. “I love being able to throw the ball to all my great receivers. Me and coach Klipp have built a great relationship. He’s put in a great offense. He trusts me and I trust him.”

Head coach Ty Klippenstein credited his quarterback with making good decisions, and said what makes his team hard to stop is its ability to spread the ball around and keep defenses guessing .

“The benefit that we have as a team right now is we have a whole bunch of guys who are dangerous with the ball in their hands,” he said. “We also have a quarterback who is good at getting the ball to all those guys. When we protect him it lets him make good decisions and the offense gets going.”

Most of the ANC starters watched the second half from the sideline following a 35-0 halftime lead, and a second-half safety followed by a 29-yard touchdown run by Chris Keel sealed the win for ANC. The team is riding a 13-game win streak dating back to the final regular season game of the 2017 season.

ANC (2-0) travels to the Hill School on Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.

“We need to just keep this going and make sure we have a great week of practice,” Brenfleck said. “They are a big school so we need to make sure we’re ready for whatever comes our way.”
