Reporter Baseball Roundup: Souderton outlasts Quakertown in 12-inning pitchers’ duel
The Souderton and Quakertown baseball teams battled in an epic pitchers’ duel Wednesday afternoon that finally ended when the host Indians collected their first two hits in the bottom of the 12th inning, Jacob Horton’s RBI single giving Big Red a 1-0 walk-off Suburban One League Continental Conference win.
Souderton starting pitcher Erik Ritchie went 5 2/3 innings, struck out 12, allowed three hits and walks two. Luke Taylor threw the final 6 1/3 innings and struck out nine in earning the win for the Indians (8-2, 6-0 conference).
Quakertown starter Cody Barbiero struck on eight while Dennis Pierce had seven strikeouts.
In the bottom of the 12th, Billy Norbeck reached on an error with his courtesy runner Evan Bromiley going to second on Hogan Despain’s sacrifice bunt. After Conlan Wall was intentionally walked for the second time in the game, Taylor loaded the bases with Souderton’s first hit — a single to left. Horton followed with his walk-off RBI single to right center.
Mason Hick and Nolan Byrnes both had two hits for the Panthers (6-2, 3-2).
Central Bucks South 3, Central Bucks West 2 (8 innings) >> Central Bucks South forced extra innings with a run in the top of the seventh then scored on more in the eighth to earn the SOL Continental win.
Jake Trachtenberg had two RBIs for the Titans (5-4, 4-2 conference). West’s Matt McCarthy was 2-for-3 with a run while Tyler Dalzell added a double, RBI and run scored.
The Bucks (5-5, 2-3) posted both of their runs came in the bottom of the fourth after South took a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning.
Wissahickon 6, Upper Dublin 2 >> In a contest that resumed play after being suspended in the top of the second last Friday, Quinn Rover struck out 14 in earning a complete-game victory as Wissahickon pulled away late for the SOL American win.
Bobby McFarland went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two run scored while Joe Hornig finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Trojans, who broke a 2-2 tie with a run the top of the fourth, went up 4-2 in the fifth then tacked on two more runs in the sixth.
Jarrod Matz collected a pair of RBIs for Upper Dublin.
