Big 2nd period pushes North Penn past Pennsbury in Flyers Cup AA 1st round
HATFIELD TWP. >> North Penn scored five second-period goals against Pennsbury Wednesday night to go screaming into the Flyers Cup quarterfinals.
“We have a lot of offensive power on this team,” said Knights coach Kevin Vaitis. “When we get it going, we can really get it going. And that’s what we did in the second period. I think we took advantage of the game.
“We had that short change right by our bench and we were able to capitalize on a number of chances.”
North Penn pulled away to a 9-5 victory over the Falcons, advancing to a Monday contest.
After being tied 1-1 after one, the Knights broke the game open in the second period with a pair of goals each by Jake Nelson and Tyler Greenstein, and an additional tally by Thomas Boyle.
Greenstein’s quickness was key for the Knights.
“He just has so much speed,” Vaitis said. “He’s such an explosive player. He really turned it on there for us.”
North Penn added goals by Josh Kaufold, Jared Alabano and Luke Van Why. Nathan Oh had the first-period goal for NP.
The Knights could be heading to a showdown with rival Pennridge. The Rams went 2-0-1 against the Knights this winter, but all three were tightly-contested matchups.
“They gotta take care of Garnet Valley (later Wednesday night), but assuming they do that, we played (Pennridge) three times this year,” Vaitis said.
