3. Downingtown West 24, Harry S. Truman 22
Downingtown West decided its season wasn’t over.
Truman had just taken a 22-21 lead with 30 seconds left when Owen Poulson capped a long drive by banging his way in from nine yards out, and then completed a two-point conversion to take the lead. But after West took the kickoff at its own 48-yard line, Ryan Wetzel hit Jackson Luneberg for 31 yards to the Tigers’ 22-yard line. That set up Dan Byrnes’ heroics and set off a wild celebration as the kicker nailed a 39-yard field goal in the windswept Kottmeyer Stadium to lift the Whippets to a victory in the District 1 Class 6A quarterfinals.
