Radnor swimmers come up just short of rallying Conestoga

Radnor was on pace for a big Central League win until Brendan Burns intervened late.

The Conestoga senior won the 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and anchored the victorious 400 freestyle relay as the Pioneers clipped Radnor, 95-90, Tuesday in Central League boys swimming action.

Radnor got off to a strong start. Wil Cosgrove dominated the distance events with two wins, and Patrick Cullen likewise reigned in the sprints. Brian Chettle was the top scorer in diving at 221 points, while Nick Mlodzienski (200 individual medley) and Jack Undercofler (100 butterfly) also notched wins.

The squad of Cullen, Undercofler, Mlodzienski and Andrew Davis put Radnor up by 17 points via a win in the 200 free relay.

Also in the Central League:

Ridley 95, Penncrest 85 >> Alex Boeckx won the 100 free in a school-record time of 48.06, added a win in the 50 free and swam on two first-place relays for the Green Raiders.

Zach Anderson won the 200 IM to go with two winning relays for Ridley.

JB Peterson won the 200 free and 100 fly for the Lions.

Garnet Valley 97, Harriton 74 >> Griffin Young (200 free, 400 free), James Greek (200 IM, 100 back) and Aidan Zipf (50 free, 100 free) each won two individual events and two relays as the Jaguars coasted.

Haverford 104, Upper Darby 75 >> David Abrahams won the 200 and 500 free, and Graham Jackson prevailed in the 50 free and 100 back to pace the Fords. Jon Meyer and Zach Given chipped in one individual win and one relay win apiece, while Dan Carson’s score of 210.20 dominated diving.

Upper Darby’s Patrick Rankin, Carlo Constantine, Kevyn Daly and Hunter Youngblood won the medley relay.

Girls Swimming

Chelsey Liu won the 100 fly and anchored the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays as Episcopal Academy topped Notre Dame, 101-79, in Inter-Ac action.

Hadley DeBruyn (200 IM) and Kelly Feuzeu Mekoue (50 free) also augmented an individual triumph with legs on the victorious 200 medley relay. Kat Harrar scored a big win in diving with 238.43 points.

Notre Dame produced the day’s lone double winners, with Mia Abruzzo claiming the 500 free and 100 back and Ashley Kolessar winning the 100 free and 100 breast.

In the Central League:

Ridley 101, Penncrest 81 >> Madison Rae won the 100 fly and took part in two winning relays to pace the Green Raiders. Paige Shaika (50 free) and Grace Reagan (100 free) added individual wins to go with relay triumphs.

Penncrest got two individuals wins each from Lindsay Cave (200 free, 500 free) and Julia Colizzo (200 IM, 100 back).

Garnet Valley 99, Harriton 79 >> Noelle DiClemente won the 200 and 400 free to go with two winning relay legs as the Jags cruised. Alexa Hipp added wins in the 50 free and 100 back for GV, and Avery Malek was the top diver in a GV 1-2-3 finish.

Haverford 96, Upper Darby 82 >> Brooke Jamieson won the 50 free and 100 fly, and Abby Vantrieste was the top scorer in diving as the Fords rolled.

Emily Lehman won the 200 free for UD.

Conestoga 113.5, Radnor 72.5 >> Casey Cullen ruled the distance game by winning the 200 and 500 free, but multiple individual wins by Sophia Poeta and Alex Marlowe paced the Pioneers to the win.
